As states across the country drafted bills to exempt NIL dollars from state income tax, one is now signed into law. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed the transformative bill Friday.
Under the law – which amended the Arkansas Student-Athlete Publicity Rights Act – funds related to NIL or revenue-sharing directly from a university will be exempt from state income tax. Additionally, the bill states financial information related to payments to athletes will be confidential and not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
quote:
“Income received by a student-athlete from an institution of higher education as compensation for the use of his or her name, image, or likeness or as a percentage of institutional athletic revenue permitted by the institution of higher education’s governing athletic association or conference under this subchapter is exempt from state income tax,” the law states.

Arkansas was one of a handful of states with bills looking to exempt NIL dollars from income tax. Alabama, Louisiana and Georgia were among those in the South to do so, and Illinois saw a similar bill emerge in its state legislature. Arkansas is believed to be the first state to sign such a bill into law.

Well this pretty much guarantees the same stupid arse bill currently in the Louisiana Legislature will pass and be signed by Gov Landry.

This is insane. But a college student working their way through college on a minimum wage job has to pay taxes.

College sports have been ruined.

Arkansas football will still suck

I’m all for reducing taxes, but it should be across the board and not cherry picked. What’s next?…..
Professional athletes to lure them to your state’s team?
CEOs to lure their companies to your state?
Foreign immigrants to get them to move to your state?
Gays?
Single mothers?

This could be an educational moment for future pro athletes in how they will be taxed out of the arse, through multiple states..but no, they should be sheltered from this real world even further.

Just another example that the adults care way too damn much about college football.

This is such a trashy move by Sanders and anyone voting for it.
The NIL they are being paid isn’t true NIL but is pay to play. For most part their NIL isn’t worth nearly as much as schools are paying them to play sports.
I will not be able to support any Republican who votes to give spoiled college athletes a better tax rate for inflated earnings than their residents actually working to support families and their real students working to help put themselves through college get.
EDIT: To double down they are hiding from the tax payers what the state will be paying these professional athletes using tax payer money.

This is bullshite. I love college ball, but why should athletes be exempt from shite that not even NFL players get?
It's clear these laws are nothing but a way to attract croots. We have went way too far overboard with this shite.

We need to do Donald Trump’s idea and make the first $150,000 of anyone’s income exempt from income taxes. That would help poor college kids struggling to make ends meet on their $10 per hour jobs.

This is such a horrible move. Stop all income taxes, not just for college athletes. Absolutely absurd.

This explains a lot.
And it ain't good.
Entitlement will go nuts

This is a horrible position for a so-called conservative to take.

Why would you do this?
