People keep sharing stories of themselves (as parents) sharing info about MoMo and then, at the same time, acting like ONLY YouTube or other kids (who presumably saw MoMo on YT) can be the source of knowing about MoMo

Again, I agree its blown way out of proportion. I'm simply stating the idea its 100% fake is BS. There was something out there.
It’s not fake as in there are no videos of it, but it’s not “hacking” videos and content and randomly showing up during a commercial break of Peppa Pig like it’s being reported.
Your kid and his/her friends more than likely know what Momo is from something like ROBLOX where users create content/games and people talk about it. There is also, at this point, no found link between Momo and some kid(s) harming themselves.
IMO if you’re allowing your 3-8yr old to sit in his or her room to watch YouTube, even if it’s kids, while you don’t monitor it you’re failing as a parent anyway and you need to adjust. Letting YouTube Kids babysit for you is a sure fire way your kids will come across some bullshite that you didn’t want them to see and that’s the problem. All these parents trusted some open sourced, user submitted content program to babysit their kids, but couldn’t pull their heads out of their arse to actually parent and monitor their activities. They just thought “oh it’s YouTube kids, they’ll be fine” we’ll have you ever looked at NetFlix kids? My son and step daughter routinely have adult (PG13/R rated) movies popping up on their suggested watch feeds. Whether that’s a Netflix screw up or me forgetting to switch profiles, I don’t know but my kids aren’t left to watch Netflix for hours unchecked so it’s something I caught and address as needed.

It's real but this is old news. 'Calling momo' was a thing a year ago or so.

But isn’t YouTube actively deleting the ones it knows about? My point is that known threats are not the only threats.
And also that’s it’s illogical to paint worry about this as crazy if it really was an issue before YT found out and deleted the videos.
