Told my wife the same last night.

I said the OT is super skeptical while moms across the country share this stuff relentlessly.

I regularly have to tell my wife a video or story is fake. I'm getting to the point where I just let it go so I don't crush her dreams.

I'm surprised my wife hasn't asked me about Momo yet

I assume it coming and she will probably get pissed when I laugh it off as fake

You're not wrong, but that's not what's going on here imo.

My wife told me Tuesday and my mom texted the whole family on Wednesday.

if you go look at the YT account linked on page 1 by OP it's a guy who is just obviously making fake MoMo videos

the irony is he's doing the same sort of manipulation the mother's are freaking out about, but they're the ones being manipulated

MOMO is another Russian internet offensive on our nation. MOMO helped elect Trump.

No of course not. I'm saying that your daughter's friend didn't find out about it while watching a Peppa Pig youtube clip with Momo spliced in.

This is what my daughter told my wife and I yesterday I'm paraphrasing but using some exact words: "MOMO is some scary mask with huge eye balls and black hair"

She specifically said scary mask and black hair. Again, I agree its mostly made up. But the idea there is 0% truth I think is BS.

For one, how many Moms out there know how to save a youtube video outside of posting a link to Youtube? Not very freaking many for sure. It wouldn't be that hard for youtube to not only scrub youtube videos but also any other videos with anything remotely related to having a Momo in it.

You are saying they are GREAT at preventing them but shitty at scrubbing the evidence? At least be uniform in their ability.

But what's not been proven is the actual deaths. There's reports of a girl in Argentina killing herself and here and there. But the reality is, no kid is actually DOING anything except freaking out and telling their parents.

“It’s not actually killing anyone, probably” seems like an awfully low bar to set.

I’m glad to know of it. Not that I needed more reason not to give my kids unfettered access to the internet.

What Sonic do you want to meet at to give me my $5?

The girl lives with her retired grandma because the mom is not with the dad, the dad doesn't work, and I think the mom waits tables. The aunt and her lesbian gf live there also.

So yeah, this girl didn't get proactive parenting.

I love how that link has

in it but zero mention of anything of that in the article.

No one is arguing that kids haven't seen the pic or a video about Momo

We just don't think they are seeing the actual Momo videos where she just pops in some random video

Kids are certainly aware of Momo and what she looks like, and I'm sure they doing what kids do and trying to top each other with their Momo stories

Crazily enough, moms may be more concerned with protecting their children than in proving their supreme skepticism to other internet nerds.

My assumption wrt this kind of stuff is that once we hear about it it’s not much of a threat, if it ever was. I also assume that evil, creepy stuff is constantly being uploaded.

What I’m unsure of is YouTube’s ability and willingness to remove such content before children start to find it. And I know for a fact that my values and those of YouTube content police aren’t aligned.

1.3 billion people use YouTube, 5 billion videos are watched every day, and 300 hours of video are uploaded every minute...
And Salmon is pretty sure he knows what kids are and aren’t seeing.

Those figures are according to google searching “how many videos are on YouTube?”

o I’m making up the fact my daughters teacher called us yesterday? All she said was my daughter was talking about it and she felt the parents should know.

My daughter found out about it through a friend. What she saw exactly or knows I don’t know. But to some degree it’s very real and kids are discussing it.

I agree it’s blown out of proportion. But it’s a thing, not sure what else you want me to say?

Big foot is real too.

Nobody is denying your kid talking about it, but that still doesn’t make it anymore real than Bigfoot. I’ve looked for the videos but found nothing other than a bunch of freak out videos by older kids.

It’s the equivalent to a chain email of the 90’s and 00’s and this point.
