What's funny to me in that picture is that those two cops were more dressed out for combat than I ever was as a contractor overseas.

There's parts of BR where it's a nessesity. Especially serving a high risk warrant when breaching a door. Every TPOS owns a gun in BR.

The reason everyone is saying "buy a gun" is due to one fact...

We all hope you have a great alarm system, maybe a dog.. Maybe a child proof handle on your door.. And we all hope that only material possessions are threatened.

But we all also hope that you are given a chance to plug a bullet in the skull of some piece of shite trying to take what is yours.

The laws greatly protect a person defending his or her own home.. ..

As we have all seen in many.. Many recent posts , our judicial system is slow and too many are given 4th chances...

So... Protect your stuff...

I just so happen to have a close and personal interest in this post because I was involved with the rapist a month ago in the garden district and had to watch the horrible discomfort and pain that waste of tax money caused.

If he would have been shot within one house , the eventual victim of the second would have never happened. I'm just sick of it.. Sorry for the ramble.

Yeah but that gun still won't help if your house gets broken into while you're not home.

If the place isn't already wired for alarm check out Tattle Tale or SimpliSafe alarm systems.

If you can get a large dog too.

Simpli Safe alarm system. We used it as renters. No contract, can take it with you when you leave. We paid like $17 a month for it to call our cell phones for a safe word if it went off. Loved it.

I had actually forgot it because I never needed to identify myself. Then I accidentally set it off one day and the cops came.

It was a reassuring moment. They were at my house in under 3 minutes.

It took the sheriffs office 25 minutes to get to my place after I found out it was broken into.

I had enough time to drive to the corner store, grab a 6 pack and come back. :/

I live in the garden district as well... Break ins are a part of life. You can mitigate it for sure. I've installed cameras, gotten an alarm, cameras And a dog. I conceal carry and pray that I catch one of these assholes breaking in one day.
Good luck to you. I love living in the garden district and won't move, but you have to accept the risk that comes along with it.

I had that happen to me once in that same area... I had a security system installed, even having the signs/stickers up probably deter the happenstance criminals. Lived there 6 more years without another incident.

Metal insert for door frame
Heavy duty deadbolt
Chain for when you're inside
Something like a piece of wood to stop the windows from raising
Alarm siren that sticks onto doors and windows

I would hope it's because you were reporting one had already happened rather than one in progress.

Step1: Get security system
Step2: Get gun
Step3: Learn how to properly use the gun (if you do not already know how)
Step4: Get fingerprint lockbox to store your gun in
Step5: bang sluts

Security systems are great for when you're not home. Gotta love those BRPD response times. And if you are home, nothing makes you feel safer than a desk jockey wearing an Oxford shirt calling you from a 1,000 miles away asking you what your secret code word is.

For frick's sake just get a big dog.

We also have a panic button that immediately and silently dispatches to local police.

Bear traps.. Put them around the house before you leave in inconspicuous places.

Then wait a few minutes before calling the police when you see on of these stealing fricks stuck like chuck. Ask if he wants some tea, etc while he's screaming in agony.

Guarantee you he will never do it again

Get a speaker dog. When someone knocks on your door, a device detects the sound and it plays dogs barking through a speaker.
