This is true until you have to pay union fees. And those fees goes nowhere expect the union reps themselves.

I'm the 90s it took ten years to go from sorter to driver at the hub in Nashville. Now it takes 1 year!!

This is all that needs to be posted.

It's been a slow downward trend for those drivers.

I never could figure out how these amazing companies with all of their logistics software and leaders still ended up for several years in a row fcking up by not hiring near enough seasonal workers for the holidays.

For the UPS people- is it really true that your trucks almost never make Left turns on your route?

My thoughts exactly. I gave it a couple days because I thought they just didn’t want to deal with it. Nope. 6 foot 130lb heavy bag just disappeared off the truck.

I’ll hire you to work for Fritolay. Less lifting and you won’t work until 8pm everyday

I worked the evening shift at the UPS Port Allen sort facility in college. It sucked. A lot. There was nothing relaxing about it. It was unimaginably hot in the summer. The only thing that kept me there was I made good money and it worked with my school schedule.

Katrina and Rita hit while I was there. Nola, Jackson, Lake Charles, and Houston sort facilities were all offline for a while. BR was the only one running. You want to talk about an absolute clusterfrick. We were unloading trucks that had been parked up to six months later - and some of them had things like omaha steaks and whatnot in them. I imagine that's what WWI battlefields smelled like.

You get rewarded with more packages and less routes.

Driving for them would be great. Great pay, good benefits. I worked at UPS in college, had I stayed, I'm sure I could be retired now. Just drive, just deliver, no people, no drama, no taking your work home.

Union dues are a pretty small fraction of their pay, and that union negotiated a pretty favorable retirement benefit for UPS drivers.

And how long ago was that.
I know two guys that quit UPS and one that quit Fedex in the last five years or so. They hated it towards the end.

It's a high pressure job. Management always telling you not to break traffic laws but insisting you get all your dropoffs and pickups done in an impossible amount of time. Side benefit is many good looking women will answer the door in various states of undress.

Mid 80's. As someone else posted, it was pretty difficult working conditions in the sort area, but I worked the night shift (11pm-3am) and at least we didn't have the sun beating down on the trucks like the day shift.

Used to get a few minutes talking to the guys who drove the 18 wheelers. Sweet gig. Same route every day and great pay.

Did the driver helper job for UPS in college. You have to learn to storm in all businesses through the backside, it is kind of weird None of the workers in the actual business ever bat an eye. I just thought it was weird, backside dentist office for example and everyone is like hey, give them that what’s up nod and you are good. Of course you have to get a sig. you learn the chicks name that sign for them quickly
