Wife and I bought a loaded 08 Denali in December of 2007. Traded in the 06 Suburban and got around 21k off that trade to put towards the new one(Suburban was paid off). Did 3 years at 2.9 and had a note just over $1000 a month. It sucked for 3 years but have been driving it free and clear since Jan. 2011. Has 152k miles on it today.

His coach just turned 16, and he banked about $30K this summer. He charges $75/hr. - even for Skype lessons, and he is almost constantly booked. He spent the entire summer away from home, hitting 16 different cities. For example, our school owner flew him in, my family hosted him, he did two 2 hr. seminars and some private lessons for a couple days, and flew on to the next city with another $2,500 in his pocket. The best make crazy money for a teenager. I don't really care if my kid makes money - I'd prefer that he gets to act like a kid. But there is a lot of money that can be made.

This is it. I've wanted a 911 since I was a kid. Last summer I woke up one day and my right foot didn't work. I had to walk with a cane. I said frick it, I'm buying my Porsche while I can still drive. Thankfully, a couple months later I regained use of my foot.

Never, ever finance a car more than 48 months. If you can't afford the car you want at 48 months, move downmarket. Obviously, never lease.
My work's credit union has a "Christmas" account that pays 5% interest on anything direct deposited into that account in ~Nov every year. Toyota is offering 72 month financing on a Prius. I knocked over 1k+ off the cost of my car by financing instead of paying upfront
Don't say "ever" because there are always exceptions

Hate car notes. Went years without one. Finally gave in as my son hit the age where he was embarrassed of my ride

Yes, but as you know, they are extremely rare.
Nissan had a lease deal on electric Leafs, that if you lived in the Georgia and combined it with Georgia tax credits, you could drive it for just about free.
Of course, you would still be driving a Leaf, but some people don't mind that.

Have a big note now(over 600) but once my yukon is paid for I plan on never having a note over 350ish.
I plan on never buying anything over 40k and never financing more than 20-25k

It's all relative to income and savings.
I'll never advocate living like a pauper and not enjoying life, but I'd much rather save at least 10% of my salary each year than drive a car than I had to finance for 5-6 years.
When I started buying new cars in the 80s, 36-48 months was the norm. Then, people started doing 60 months and later, 72.
That's a ton of interest on a rapidly depreciating asset. I think we all get sucked into, " it must be OK, everyone's doing it".
Well, a lot of us aren't.

...while this is my last car, I do plan on converting it to a GT3 RS look when it starts looking a little old. And my wife is due for a new car real soon. I'm trying to push her to a Mercedes CLA45 AMG, or a Porsche Macan S if she insists on sticking with an SUV. And my kid needs a car next year - probably a Camaro or a Mustang. All will be financed at 72 months, I assure you.

Have you ever thought about not paying more that you should for your purchases? Wouldn't you like to not be a slave to payments and interest?
Or is willpower (and maturity for a 44 year old person) simply not in your vocabulary? This isn't a knock or personal slam against you.
I hope for your sake and your family's that your world doesn't come crashing down, because if it does, you will do far greater damage to yourself and to them than the "happiness" that you are providing to yourself and them right now.

A few years ago, a truck would have been the perfect vehicle for this. But pickups have become so profanely expensive, I don't see how anyone could ever justify one. And yes I'm a truck owner.

I understand about living life the fullest, but as a married person, the greatest gift I can give to my children is the one of no debt when I pass on. I don't want my burden to become their burden. Same goes for my wife, should I leave this earth sooner than she does.

Why does anyone care how someone else spends their money? Everyone is different, and everyone's circumstances differ. I prefer to keep my cash working for me than to give it to the dealer in a lump sum car payment because it makes plain economic sense...to me.

This is a message board and it's been brought up for discussion. At the end of the day, it's his life, his wife and his "future" earnings.
I just don't want to have to pay for it.
