i had one or two in the past
they go off like crazy all the time for motion doors at stores and other stuff so it got to the point i couldnt trust it because 90% was false alarm.
cops are smarter now too so they dont leave radar on, they shoot cars they see moving faster then traffic so moist times it just tells you they just clocked you and its too late
save your money and just pay attention if you want to speed, if they can clock you then they are well within range to see them with your eyes

Just use waze. Works better than radar. (In populated areas) Waze is a great tool to go along with a radar detector. Bad thing with Waze is that it is essentially useless off interstates or major highways. It is also useless against moving radar on any highway.
Not entirely true. Waze saved my arse on the highway going down to Venice, LA. It was nearly midnight on a Friday night last spring. Waze blew up, and I was like ‘no way’. Slowed down and half a mile later, 2 smokies in the median. This is extreme BFE.

A good detector still picks up the "instant on" radar they are using on the other cars in traffic. If you're running at a high rate of speed all by yourself then you are taking the risk of getting popped with Instant On and Laser. And really, it's just the State Troppers I see turning their guns off. Local police usually keep them on all of the time.

You can't use radar on the road all by yourself.
You're depending on the cars ahead of you several miles to get clocked and you see that knowing a cop is coming up. My beltronics had a range of 7 miles.
I learned that the hard way when I was younger thinking I was invincible. Used properly and it's a great tool.

Point is that it is a crowd-sourced app. With no Wazers in the area you're driving there are no alerts posted. Your incidental evidence on LA23 (which I know very well) doesn't change that. The chance of you getting a useful alert on "backroads" are far far less than on roads such as I-10 or US90.

Very True. Most of the Instant-On shots I've encountered are from Troopers. Very rare to encounter Sheriffs office using that feature. It's much easier to just leave it constantly transmitting and just watching the display.

What happened to LSP using vascar system?
Rare occurrence. Waze would most likely help in this situation.

Haven't read the entire thread and don't intend to. I have used a valentine one since 2006. I speed constantly, way over the speed limit. I have received 2 tickets since 2006. Once when it was turned off, and another time in the wifes car when I didn't move the detector from my car. All the connections are hardwired to the back of the mirror to swtichable 12V so it automatically turns on/off with the switch. You can send the detector in for updates so you don't have to keep buying a new detector.

Those never worked. Total scam by a company called Rocky Mountain Radar. They were allowed to sell them because the precisely didn't work. If they did work they'd be in big trouble with the FCC. You'd be in trouble for using any radar jamming device as well. It is a federal felony to actively jam radar. Laser, on the other hand, is not regulated by the FCC and is legal to jam in most states. Even in laser jamming banned states its usually only an equipment violation similar to getting a window tint ticket. The speeding ticket is way worse so most laser jammer users don't care if it illegal in their state.

Radar jammers are illegal in all states since radar is regulated by the FCC. Laser jammers on the other hand, are only illegal in select states and yes, they do work.
ETA, beat to the punch.

of course you can. your chances of getting a ticket are slim just using common sense, like not speeding thru livonia. then you add in a decent radar detector that knocks out 90% of the slim chance of getting a ticket. if you speed regularly its dumb not to have one.

ALPs for the win! Just make sure to kill your jammers once you slow down to allow the officer to get a speed. That or use the 4 second auto kill feature. You have 4 seconds to slow down until the jammers stop jamming.

I've had them all, currently using the max 360c and it's to smart for it's own good. V1 was my favorite, if I could sell the 650$ escort I would in a second to go back to Valentine. Sad thing is, V1 is out of stock right now.

I believe it has been this way for a while.
Mike Valentine, unless he is incredibly discreet with a new innovation --- appears to be sitting back and counting his money.
