I buy roughly 80% of my groceries from Costco. Thankfully, the one in Baton Rouge is on my way home from work and only a couple miles from my house. Besides the normal paper towels... Its amazing the savings on other items like blueberries, spring lettuce, strawberries, tomatoes, coffee. The quality is untouchable.
eta: Avocados. I buy 2 bags at a time. One super green and one that will be ripe in 3-4 days.

Aldis, Wally world, and pick up the shite you cant get from either, that you need from local chain.
We cut ours down from 175-180 a week to 100-120 a week. From using all the places we have near us to get our stuff, and all are within 5 mins of house.

We use Costco for:
Ground Meat ($2.79lb... It's typically $4.99lb at Kroger)
Steaks (really good quality and 2" cuts- usually one steak will feed the 2 of us)
Bottled Water ($2.99 for like 48 bottles)
La Croix Sparkling Water ($6.99 24 pack)
Heart of Romaine Lettuce ($3.49 for 6 heads)
Individually frozen Chicken Breasts ($14 for 3.5 lbs)
Avocados($4.99 for 6)
Shredded Cheese (2 huge bags $6--we freeze one bag)
Assorted nuts like pecans, almonds, peanuts for much less cheaper prices per pound than any grocery.
Kirkland low carb protein bars ($17 for 24)
Vitamins
Contact lens solution($6 for 2 huge bottles)
Sonicare replacement heads ( $29.99 for 8)
Kirkland Detergent pods
Kirkland Dryer Sheets
Kirkland Dishwasher Detergent
Kirkland Dog Food
LED bulbs, batteries etc are all great prices.
Kirkland Toilet paper, ziplock bags, paper plates, garbage bags etc... All really good quality at great prices.
It's nice to only have to buy stuff like TP, detergent, ziplock bags, batteries, garbage bags, paper plates etc like 2 or 3 times a year

We plan our grocery shopping around Tuesday, when Fresh Market has $2.88 per pound fresh ground chuck and boneless skinless chicken brests. Then add a stop at Aldis about a frection of a mile away for fresh produce, eggs, milk, etc.
Sams once a month for bulk items. Local chain store for real buttermilk, their own cornmeal mix and fresh parsley and cilantro (until mine gets large enough to start cutting.)
Time of the year matters: onions in bulk from Sams in early Fall , but in spring only in small bags because they are wanting to sprout, likewise potatoes.

Have you had luck with the quality there? Seems like it's a similar gimmick to Trader Joe's.
I've never been to Aldi, but from the posts I see on another forum, it seems they carry a lot of the exact same items as Trader Joe's with their own packaging on them.

We go to several different stores to shop for groceries. Good thing all of these stores are within a couple of miles from the house.

Aldis has the big companies(generalmills, p&g,etc) make stuff for them under a no name brand. It's the same stuff, just under their label.
And locally, Deans delivers some??? of their dairy, if not most of it.
And they redid nearly all of the Aldis in St.Louis area, and are bringing in even more quality items, under their label.

Just recently (couple of months ago) started using Costco...
I have been using Sam's but once the subscription ran out I switched to Costco as they are much closer to where I live in SG...
Very pleased so far...

Does Costco have ethanol free gas?

WalMart and Costco is where we do 99% of our grocery shopping.

Notice the price of avocados skyrocketing? A month ago a bag at Costco was $6.99, Friday it was $8.99. Tomatoes will soon see a similar increase.
I buy 95% of my groceries at Costco. I freeze blueberries, strawberries, turkey burger, bison and chicken so they don't spoil and I eat all of the eggs, spinach, avocados and sweet potatoes before they go bad.

We make a weekly meal plan based on what we have in the freezer and pantry.
Look at weekly circulars to see who has what on sale. If anyone has chicken on sale, we go there and buy it. Chicken can be really expensive out here. Same for frozen veggies and canned food we need.
We always get bacon and ground meat from Costco, snacks for work, toilet paper, paper towels and other paper goods.
We end up getting lots of groceries from Wal Mart as they almost always have the best prices for what we need. Our local Von’s has $5 Friday’s, so we check those out too.
We try to eat mostly at home and take lunches to work. When we started planning our meals and shopping sales we started saving lots of money on groceries.

Costco is the bomb for stocking up on non-perishables or non-food items. As an example, I saved $300 on my eyeglasses from Costco this year compared to what I paid last year at Eyewear Express.

The founder of Aldi and the founder of Trader Joe's are actually brothers. They owned a singular entity, Aldi, in Germany back in the day. They had some sort of falling out and the company split into two, both called Aldi, but one "Aldi North" and one "Aldi South", both in Germany. Aldi North acquired Trader Joe's back in the 1950's and operates under that name in the US.
It's very likely they both source many of their products from the same manufacturers under different labels.

I noticed a huge similarity between the two.

Aldi and Lidl are both awesome

if you're that tight on money, don't try to save it by going to shitty places like TJs and Aldi, plan weekly menus and shop accordingly, eat leftovers, get a freezer, buy in bulk
