Fresh out of college I was a juvenile probation officer & one of our duties was taking male juvies convicted of serious, or habitual, crimes to LTI, the old Juvenile Training Institute at Bridge City. That place, right or wrong, was where the large majority of black thugs were sentenced. Whites, non violent offenders, were usually sent to a facility in Monroe. Picture a prison, no cells, just large barracks, housing the thugs from the various housing projects. Once or twice every couple of mths, a group would rush the main gate, just a large gate, & more than a few would escape but for only a short period of time. Immediately after an escape, the State would bring in Angola Guards on horseback to patrol the surrounding area. In time, another group would rush the gate. Each captured juvie would be roped & dragged back thru the gate. Good for peace for several weeks. I would never allow either of my then young sons to be sentenced there. To be non PC, pure animals. And the female juvie facility was even worse. At times, to teach a lesson, a judge would tell us to bring along a white juvie, typically causing parents' issues, not violent. They would sit in the admissions area & watch, eyes glued wide. Most left scared out of their minds.

I was at a massive holding cell at Orleans PP from a heavy bender one night. I was the only white guy amongst 150 people. A white frat 23 year old too. I was so hungover that I couldn't hold down any liquids. I chugged water once and ran straight to the urinal to throw it all back up. I ended up clogging the urinal and was panicking. I kept flushing hoping it'd go down, but the flusher stayed on with drain clogged and the urinal overtopped with water leaking the whole bathroom floor.
So, me a 23 year old white guy in an all black prison just flooded the entire bathroom floor, now black guys are starting to get pissed bc they can't go to the bathroom. I was panicked. Luckily, nobody actually gave me trouble and I bailed a couple hours later.

The answer to what are you in for - "I'm a cold blooded murderer". Act crazy as shite and break enough rules to be moved to solitary confinement. Never been, but I have seen enough movies.

quote:Is Louisiana the only state that refers to local jails as prisons? And if so what's the story behind that? Some sort of Franco thing?
So when you use the word prison, i just assume you mean like east baton rouge prison

SERE in the late 80/early 90s was a bit different than now.
If it weren't for the lack of food, lack of sleep, humping all day, and a nav point I still swear was not where it was supposed to be I would have enjoyed the evasion phase. The captivity phase was a different animal and well outside the 8th Amendment for incarcerated individuals. I thought at the beginning knowing there was a finite end and it wasn't "real" was all it would take, those bits of reality melted away quickly, less than 24 hours at the most.
The whole endeavor made my question whether I wanted to attempt to "Come home with honor" or just make sure I saved one bullet for myself.

Did 34 months. Trick is to stay with your race and mind your business. Time gets easier after your wife or girlfriend leaves you because it's inevitable, she will.

You should do everything in your power to stay out of prison.
I’m getting the impression he’s liking the thought of being a prisoner.

Going in acting like a badass is the last thing you want to do, Don't get me wrong, don't look weak but be respectful. You might be able to beat the toughest guys in theres arse but you'll be fighting a lot of guys next time enough that you will not win.
Keep your mouth shut and your ears open and mind your business. On the off chance you do all this and still find yourself confronted by an altercation, never show fear or back down. Even if you know you're not going to win you do the best you can. Then when it's over, again keep your mouth shut.
This x1000. Be cool, respectful and don't run your mouth.

I’m lol’ing a little because especially at the water board interrogation phase I remember telling myself over and over “there’s Doc he won’t let them harm you, you can hold out” 45 seconds later I’m babbling like a freaking baby. Biggest mind frick I’ve ever had. The whole experience was as advertised “the best, worst school I’ve ever attended”.

Just curious... how'd they do that?
Stretching and physical therapy for about 3 weeks before I could really say I had my mobility anywhere close to where it was before hand.

I'm going through something similar. I was just curious about the stretching routines. I start PT this month.

It’s a slow process. Flexibility is a huge health benefit that seems often over looked.
A girlfriend of mine has a full-on Pilates machine in her house. Using that thing regularly was amazing.
