Anyone remember a traffic crash on Drusilla Ln in the late 80s that killed like 5 teens?

This had to have happened around 87-88?
If I remember correctly, the teens were in the bed of a pickup truck and the truck was maybe drag racing before losing control and crashing into a ditch near the BREC park on Drusilla.
I think they had just left maybe a crank it up contest or car show in the parking lot of New Generation and had been drinking prior to the crash. Was obviously a huge story locally, but a quick google didnt return anything.
Does any of that ring a bell with the ole school Baton Rouge peeps?
Edited to add: Complete article of the accident on page 4

Is it me, or is this weird wording for "car accident"?

Any flowers or markers at the site that has names? Sometimes searching for names helps, especially if an 80s death.

Quite possibly the most "80's sentence" I will ever read on this board...

Here's what I remember, you can tell me if I'm wrong. Two low rider trucks were drag racing. Happened on a Sunday afternoon and maybe there had been a visit to a daiquiri shop before. Driver was impaired. High school kids all over one truck. The injuries were said to be horrific. It's been over 30 years, so some of this may be wrong.

Jesus man. What prompted you to go in search of such a horrific event?

I grew up in the neighborgood across from that BREC park, my parents had just moved there and said the wreck was the worst they'd ever seen. There's still a cross in the ditch in front of the park.

Yes I remember it, and one of the drivers involved was Brett Garafola and his brother was one of the cops that was killed back in 2016 - Brad Garafola
On or about May 22, 1988 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Sandra J. Brunson was a passenger in the bed of a 1985 Toyota pickup truck, which was owned by Louise Lin and operated by Hsi Wen Lin, travelling northbound at or near the 2400 block of Drusilla Lane in the Parish of East Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
3.
Suddenly and without warning the truck swerved off the road, struck a culvert and flipped over causing the damages referred to hereinafter.
4.
Petitioners, Adrian L. Brunson, III and Donna C. Brunson, are the natural parents of Sandra J. Brunson.
5.
At all times pertinent hereto, Sandra J. Brunson was riding as a guest passenger in the truck being operated by defendant, Hsi Wen Lin, with the consent and permission of his sister, Louise Lin, who was the registered owner of the vehicle.
6.
Based upon information and belief, defendant, Hsi Wen Lin, was engaged in a drag race or some other form of unwise, imprudent and negligent conduct with another motor vehicle being driven by, and believed to be owned by, John Brett Garafola.
7.
Based upon information and belief, prior to the aforesaid accident, both defendants Lin and Garafola had consumed alcoholic beverages in the parking lot of the New Generation store, owned by the defendant, New Generation, Inc., and located on Staring Lane in the Parish of East Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
8.
Based on information and belief, both Lin and Garafola, as well as hundreds of other persons, were in attendance at the Crank-It-Up contest sponsored by New Generation, Inc., at which event young people were encouraged to play their automobile stereos in a loud manner to determine which was loudest.

I remember this but for some reason I thought they were in a different part of town(probably my 12 yr old memory). Wasn't it Belaire HS kids/alumni?
I wasn't driving age yet but I remember my mom and dad really worrying about my oldest brother and his crazy friends. The whole city was talking about it.

Several kids from Belaire died. Very surreal and eerie Monday morning at school from what I remember. Sad, very sad.

His brother Brett drove one of the trucks involved, the girl killed was in the other truck that left the roadway
Brad was the cop that died but was not involved in this accident
Brett and Brad both went to Broadmoor
