Anyone Relate to This Monologue/Dialogue from There Will Be Blood (2007)

I do relate a little too much to Daniel Plainview's character. I don't really hate most people, but I like very few. I don't mind getting away when I become exceptionally wealthy. I have ferocious competition in me, and I get rage fits when I see someone beat me to something in business. I wouldn't say I want nobody to succeed, too general, but I don't want anyone to succeed in the same market niche as me.

It’s crazy that that movie and No Country for Old Men were released within two months of each other. Pretty solid two month stretch.

Yeah, both have a following for a reason.
Although I think Day Lewis is way more quotable. "I drink your milkshake" vs "Call it".

One night they did a pyrotechnic test for the oil derrick scene and the resulting fire/smoke plume forced the Coen Brothers to delay shooting until the next day.
Film sets were very close to each other

There will be blood is a goddam masterpiece.
Day's character is somewhat relatable until he starts acting like a dick to his son (not real son but still). That's really the only part that makes him unlikable in my mind.

I get the drive, but ultimately I want most people to succeed, just to a lesser level than I do. I don't hate most people, I just think a lot are misguided in this life (me included). I will probably own my own business one day, so I have to temper expectations, because while I'm good, I'm not nearly the best.

Daniel Plainview was a psychopath. The only good characteristic that he had was his drive and work ethic. If you have anything else in common with that character, you need to get some help. He killed two people and made an enemy of his son. By the way, I think DD Lewis's performance here was one of the best of any actor in the last 50-60 years. Just incredible.

One of the most overrated movies in history.

Some of us prefer entertainment above the intellectual level of Spongebob. Sorry you struggle to comprehend.

I totally get the drive. Right now, my sales team is #2 in our company in sales. I was #1 all year up until a couple weeks ago. I understand that there will be some back and forth firth along the way, but I looked into this guys numbers and he did it the sleazy way.
I relate 100% with this scene

People are allowed to not like things that you like, you know. While I'm not a SpongeBob watcher, it's definitely more entertaining than DDL method-acting as an a-hole. He's performing, what's your excuse?

He did, but both of the people he killed were con artists. In real life the average con artist doesn’t deserve death but a person can see that they got what was coming to them.

I bet your favorite superhero is Homelander and your favorite Brad Pitt movie is Fight Club.

Rooting for others to fail is a feminine trait.

DDL is a badass! Gangs of New York is my favorite.

There was nothing wrong with the first (it wasn’t stealing). He just phrased the whole drink your milkshake to antagonize someone he loathed coming to him thinking he could negotiate a deal with far more leverage than he actually had.
Most people probably hated Paul Dano’s character to that point, so murdering him probably boosted DDL’s likability.
