Where the hell are you guys shopping at because 95% of the time the cashier just wants to get you out of there ASAP as well. I may have only had one or two times in my life where a cashier has annoyed me with unwanted conversation at the register, yet I hear all these stories about chatty arse cashiers.
I still use self checkout if I'm only getting a couple of things and don't want to wait in line behind people with carts filled to the brim.

Self-checkout is a damn luxury. It’s very rare to get a polite person who even greets you when checking you out anymore. Most of the time the person is carrying on a conversation with another cashier on matters I quite honestly could not give a shite about.

I’m indifferent. My grocery stores don’t have them, so it’s basically just CVS when I have to use it. Not the end of the world.

I use it all the time but I generally only have a handful of items and I like to just use it real quick. If I have any fresh produce that they have to look up or a bunch of shite then I let them do it.

I always use self checkout, when available. I'm faster than the cashers and am usually ready to GTFO of the store.

I'm about as introverted and anti-social as they come, but I actually enjoy interacting with a few of the cashiers where I shop. I guess because I've been shopping there so long and kind of gotten to know them.

Hell, I'd probably agree to pay 5% more just to use them so I don't have to deal with the lines and cashiers.

Y'all must shop at some shitty grocery stores. The employees at the Publix I shop at are almost annoyingly friendly and courteous.
