2 attacked me and my right hand will never be the same. They would have killed me if they would have caught me. They came pretty damn close. A pit bull or something that size will mess an intruder up, a Boerboel will kill a grown man its like having a small bear. There is no need to have one unless you live in Africa and are afraid of lions. That's what they were bread for I think.

My grandfather had one that died when I was 12-13. If you live in a subdivision you probably shouldn't have one. Sam was a sweet dog to people he knew, but not so much to strangers. I was there by myself one day and heard hollering, barking, just a commotion going on and the Alabama Power guy was on the roof of his truck trying to get him away. They'll die for you or your family, but too much liability IMO.

12 is pretty good. I have a great Pyredane (Pyrenees/Dane mix). If she lives to be 12, I'll consider us lucky. She will have outlived her rot/lab mix brother by over 2 years.

I love big dogs, hate that they go too soon.

Weird how truck and dogs bring you to penis.

Drove up to my friend's farm one evening. The dog walked up to the car and stared at me through the window. Looked like a freaking bear.

They had to put one of theirs down that summer as it got cancer.

Honestly wouldn't want to pay to food cost of a dog that big.

I read that they poop less than a chihuahua. Tiny little dry rabbit turds.

There's also no better dog to maul the neighbors 8 year old who jumped your fence to get his baseball.

Quit trying to be edgy and cool. Just get a normal dog.

Thinking of getting one. There is no better dog for home protection

As the current owner of a Boerboel, yes there is. We had a fila (Brazilian Mastiff) growing up. They have a much worse temperment than Boerboels when it comes to people on their property.

Here is my Boerboel

She's been socialized from a young age and is a pretty useless guard dog. She will occasionally bark at neighbors from our front yard but that's about it. She scares the living crap out of people in public so you could say it's effective but if anyone actually broke into our house at night she probably wouldn't even get out of bed. A friend said they "felt like they were in a police training video" when she was running at them, playing in a park. She follows my son around everywhere and may get mean if someone messed with him but I haven't had anyone pick a fight with our 2 year old to find that out.

I've found that most people who think they have Boerboels don't have pure bred South African Mastiffs. They are NOT big by Mastiff standards. Males should not weight over 180 lbs and they shouldn't be more than 28 inches at the shoulders. The top of their head usually isn't as high as your hip. Females are usually a tad shorter and 30-40 lbs lighter. They are probably have more of an English mastiff temperment than Brazilian or Cane Corso. Better guard dogs exist, but you certainly could do the necessary training to get a Boerboel to attack strangers on your property. Having a dog that would do that (the fila) it's more of a pain in the arse than I think most expect.
