Anyone on here have thoughts or views (pro/con) about moving to Savannah from Louisiana?

Sister & her husband have opportunity to leave decrepit ol' New Orleans for a job offer he has in Savannah, GA.
They make a nice living (I.e. private school for the kids) but otherwise have no connections to the city.
Anyone on here have thoughts or views (pro/con) about moving to Savannah from Louisiana?

I have an opinion: Load Up

There is no reason in the world to choose living in Louisiana over living in Savannah.

Poor man’s New Orleans with slightly less crime

I am in Savannah at least twice a month for work. Ask away.
Long story short. It's a clean New Orleans as far as the downtown goes. There are some super cool subdivisions out on the barrier islands. But those are expensive. There are super cool old houses downtown. Those are even more expensive. There is culture and crime but not anywhere near NOLA levels. Awesome food and drink.
It really come down to what housing they can afford. Luckily with the internet they can research their price range easily and see what's available.
If you like coastal life, saltwater fishing, boating, going to the beach on the islands then this is your place. I have thought about selling my place here and moving there to downsize and put the money into a boat. But family keeps me tied to LA.

What’s the point of this?
Is there something a stranger on a message board can write that will force you to convince your sister to make a life altering decision?

Savannah is beautiful and has old charm.
Not far away from Charleston, Atlanta or Charlotte
Very close to Hilton Head and Sea Island I mean that alone is a no brainer

Pros -
Probably slightly safer, although Savannah has plenty of hood
Much better coastal areas nearby for everything but fishing
Overall a more aesthetically pleasing region
Georgia is a more competent and better economic state than LA
Arguably a better tropical weather place (slightly?)
Better nearby vacation/travel options
Cons -
NO has a more useful airport
Probably some big city resources in NO you'd have to travel to ATL for in Savannah
Equally shitty climate
I'd move and live in Bluffton or similar, which would be a big upgrade over most options for most people coming from New Orleans. But I think the upgrades are less significant depending on the other places you may land in the area.

His name is Remax_Joe
I think he'll talk them into leaving so he can sell their house

Savannah is a pretty cool town but it has a pretty large no go zone also. It's pretty wild how close the hood and the tourist area and River Street area are to each other. Tybee Island, approximately 30 minutes from the city is a pretty cool and laid back beach, I used to fish there quite a bit when I was younger.
Having never been to New Orleans I can't compare the two but as long as you choose the area where you live wisely Savannah is not a bad choice

Family often seems like prison wardens. Keeping Louisiana people from leaving and living better.

I’m from Savannah originally and still have family in the area. Do you know what area of town they will be working?
Downtown area is fun but has become more tourist driven over the past decade or so. Public schools are not great for the most part but there are a few decent magnet schools in the mix. Private schools are good.
Crime is an issue especially in Savannah proper. Areas outside of town like Port Wentworth, Pooler, and Richmond Hill are great small town options with not much of a drive to the downtown area.
And there also seems to be a continued influx of Yankees into the area.
If you have specific questions let me know.

I would say live in Richmond Hill but the kids are already going to private schools so that’s taken care of. Other than that, it’s the standard city with the various crimes and amenities

The answer is always to leave Louisiana.

Great city. Beautiful city. Lots of history. There are good suburbs north of town in Effingham County(Rincon, Springfield, Guyton). Also Richmond Hill in Bryan County northwest of town is a good suburb.
Every block in downtown has a park.
River St.and the River District is a must-see.
Tybee Island(Savannah Beach) is a 20 min.drive from downtown. St.Simons and Jekyll(Brunswick) are an hour away.
Do stay away from certain areas of town at night, probably all together, but that is the same everywhere. But Savannah's bad areas are really bad.

They are drawn to the midtown area because of its charm and walkability. Coming from NoLA they are used to crime and awful streets.
I did see this Landings area seems like massive gated community with every amenity possible, good for young families as well.

People
I have lived in Houston (3X), San Francisco, Chicago, London, New Orleans and visited most big cities in the U.S. and Canada.
THE reason for New Orleans is the people and spirit. Second to none.
But does that outweigh crime, schools, job opportunity, etc.? For me, yes. For others, no.

How much Rincon has grown over the years is pretty wild. In the mid 80's it was pretty much a one stop light town.
