UPS partnered with the USPS a while back with something called SurePost. They drop it off at the post office and the post office delivers it. No idea why.
Because the USPS is so starved for money that they'll do it for next to nothing. The lost packages and late deliveries are just a value they add.

All my USPS packages have been on time...
USPS is far more effective and much cheaper for packages weighing less than 3 pounds. Any lean business without the clout of Amazon et al to levy against UPS will ship everything (not bulky) under 3 pounds by USPS, it will get there faster and much cheaper and the lost package and late delivery stats are going to be less than .01% which is very similar to UPS or FedEx.

Delivery scheduled for today. Delayed one business day apparently. I can only imagine how swamped they've become due to the huge increase in online shopping.

If your in BR area I have a friend that works for them told me they're extremely short hand on employees and have a larger workload than they use to have (not the holiday rush)

Anyone noticing unusual UPS late deliveries?
Yes. No problems with the USPS so far, but the monday before Thanksgiving I ordered something off Amazon prime. Come Wednesday, I got a email saying that UPS had tried to deliver it, but no one was home. That was bullshite. Two people were in the house, and no one knocked or rang the bell.
They couldn't attempt re-delivery until Friday, and the same thing happened. I got an email saying that they couldn't deliver it becasue no one was home, but again, two people were home, and were looking for the package to be delivered.
I finally got the package the following Monday. It was beat all to hell and back, but the item itself was thankfully unharmed.

I haven't had any late deliveries, but UPS is out late delivering. I've seen a UPS truck on my street delivering after 7:30pm 3 nights in about the last week. No telling how many nights I haven't seen them. Those people are getting after it.
In December 2006 things were still pretty fricked up in Pass Christian. Not many people back, minimal street lights, pretty desolate at night. I was working late in my aunt's house and I notice someone passing slowly in front the house a couple of times. It was about 10:00pm, so I figured they might be up to no good. I got a flashlight and my pistol and went out to the side of the property, so I wouldn't be silhouetted by the kitchen lights that were on. Sure as shite, this van passes again and turns down the driveway. Just as I'm about to turn on my light and shine the driver, I see "FedEx" on the side of the van. The van stops and I appear out of the dark, scaring the crap out of the poor guy driving. He's stumbling over my uncle's last name (very Dutch) and I'm trying to reassure him that he's in the right place. He hands his electronic clipboard out of his window for me to sign. I had my flashlight in my left hand and my pistol in my right, but slightly behind my back because I didn't want to really scare him. But to take the clipboard and sign, I had to do some rearranging. As casually as I could, I stuck the pistol under my left armpit and reached for the clip board. The guy says, "What are you doing with a gun!?!" I said, "What are you doing delivering shite at fricking midnight?" (It was only about 10pm, but who would ever expect a delivery that late, especially the way things were at the time.) His answer was that basically, they delivered everything they had no matter how late it was, because there would be another shitload of packages to deliver tomorrow.

To all you wanna be smart arse Captain Obvious types I was clear in my post that what I am seeing is unusual for THIS TIME OF YEAR. I was actually wondering, assuming there was no UPS issue I was unaware of, if this year's BF/CM season has hit some critical mass point for UPS.
According to ups, there has been a 20 % increase in online Christmas shopping as compared to last year.

Because now that we have a gay muslim gone from the most important office in the land, and an intelligent white male running the country, the economy is starting to recover.
God, I’m so glad that fig is gone.

No. The only change with UPS I am seeing over the past several months is they refuse to deliver to my front door. They leave the packages by the mailbox or in the middle of the driveway.

I have had 3 in the last 2 weeks. One that I received a refund on because it was so late, then it randomly showed up last night. Since Cyber Monday, I haven't had a single package show up within 2 days of it's expected delivery date. The package that showed up last night looks like it had been hit by a truck. That one was a UPS Smartpost delivery, so I don't know if I should blame UPS or USPS.

I had two deliveries from UPS scheduled for today, but here is the status that I saw this morning:
Memphis, TN, United States
12/06/2017 4:02 A.M. Departure Scan
12/06/2017 12:23 A.M. Arrival Scan
12/05/2017 10:00 A.M. We were unable to dispatch the trailer on time. This may cause a delay. / Delivery will be rescheduled.

I am a ups driver in Covington, it’s a shite show. 500 to 600 packages on a truck and have to go back to facility to get more.
