Talking about your depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts is a sing of strength not weakness. I know that is very hard for people to understand but if the message of strength is used more maybe some good can be done.

I also think talking about it allows you to reconnect to real people who care about you if you've gone deep into a depression or if you are headed that direction. Talking about what is consuming you can allow you to see a light rather than drown in the darkness alone.

Someone said earlier that the burden depression causes makes people want to isolate, and this will contribute to depression. It's important to reach out to friends and family/loved ones if you identify some isolation or depression.

Social media feeds weak minds false impressions that everyone life is great around them. That's pretty lethal to an individual searching for a reason to live when life has given them a shite sandwich.

Outside of TD, I rarely if ever look at social media. I feel like its literally toxic to the soul.

Shame.

I also don't act that way on other boards and I am a pretty personal person when it comes to it.

My trolling on tRant gives me smiles and laughter interacting with others.

I don't disagree. The world suggests how we should be and a lot of us are guilty of not embracing who we really are.

That's the thing I don't understand about the girl yesterday. Her life was so bad she felt the need to shoot herself, now if she survives, she will be worse than yesterday.

I always remind myself if I have a bad day that if today was so bad, tomorrow will be better, if not, yesterday wasn't that bad.

I know that I haven't been in that position where it's that bad, but have had dark times that have brought many more positives.

Yes that’s a great program but a person dealing with opiate addiction must first go through the agony of withdrawal before roughing it in the wilderness.

I'm sure you do. I enjoy this place and most of the people who I have pissed off, I have became pretty friendly with them over time. I feel like there are a lot of good people here that share many similarities.

I really don’t care about your comment. 95% say committed suicide. There is no correct term when referring to these things. I share a story of my personal encounters with this and you feel the need to “correct the term” shut up.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that each year approximately one million people die from suicide, which represents a global mortality rate of 16 people per 100,000 or one death every 40 seconds. It is predicted that by 2020 the rate of death will increase to one every 20 seconds.

Have a friend that lost one of his close friends and his father both to suicide within a year of each other. Spent about 6 months worrying that he would do it too.

One of my high school classmates did it in a church parking lot. Was a teacher/coach that had just been informed he was under investigation for sexting a student. Left a wife and child behind.

I never got close to attempting, but when my depression bottomed out in my 20s, I had started fantasizing about it. Tasting gunmetal in my mouth or visions of just disappearing from the world.

We live in a Culture of Death and Utter Moral Depravity. It's easy to understand why this phenomenon might arise now.

A guy I met a few times jumped off the bridge at low tide a couple days ago. Not sure what compelled him to do it, he was in his early 60's and just retired.

My brother brought this up this morning in our area. A 15 yr old killed himself here last night. It is happening regularly now.

Anecdotally, when I was growing up I rarely heard about suicide. Now, at 42, that shite is more common than hearing about someone dying in a car wreck. It's scary...especially when you hear your young child say something stupid like, "I just want to die.". They have no intention of killing themselves but, in this day and age, frick, you just never know.

Last year, my daughter was oddly unhappy....probably just the onset of puberty, social pressures at school, etc., but she asked to see a counselor. My wife called every child pyschologist within 30 miles of our house and got one callback. After the initial visit, they were too booked to give my daughter a follow-up appointment. I imagine this is true with adult shrinks outside urban areas, as well.

We've got to put money and incentive into mental health. Suicide IS preventable but we, as a society, aren't doing shite to slow the rate of people giving up.

The problem isnt a matter of seeing counselors, it's a matter of meaning in life. A lot of kids dont know what to make of life and literally no one has a satisfying answer now that religion is pretty much beaten dead.

We live in a 100% materialistic society, and given that we live and die by how we physically look, what we physically achieve, how much money we have etc.

A materialistic world drives people apart, makes them disconnected once they start comparing.
