why do you go on twitter? Just sit in the corner and punch yourself in the face over and over. seems less damaging

Risk that schools become hubs for this seems the real issue. You have a bunch of low symptom human germ bombs that are hard to teach good behavior.
That has always been, and will always be, the reality. It doesn't matter if they open schools in August or November.

Nobody on my Facebook seems to want to send their kids to school. I’m fine with mine going back. She did fine with completing online work, but I’m not sure how much she actually learned. She needs socialization more than anything at this point.

I’m more worried about my kids getting eaten by a fire breathing dragon than I am about them getting seriously sick from this virus

Nope, I’m health professional and have not seen one + kid since this started 5 months ago... I have not tested positive despite being exposed approx 500 times. Luckily I can ford private school and govt won’t control us

Well everyday that you wake up and walk out the door is a risk.. this is no different..

stats say harm to children from this virus is close to zero
So then where exactly is the risk??
Not anymore worried about them going to school this fall than i would be any other year..

I don't have any kids and school, but I am a teacher. I'm eager to go back. And that's coming from a 59 year old who takes multiple immuno-suppressants twice a day.'
I just don't think virtual learning can be as effective as face to face. It is possible that blended or hybrid might be effective, if the smaller class sizes can be used to offset the days without face to face, but that's not a certainty and would vary from teacher to teacher and school to school.

school... who's waiting for school
The day summer camp opened we were first in line ready to throw those little animals out the car.
It's not like camp was last year (no aftercare, have to pack a lunch, more solo activities), but after 3 months stuck at home with only each other to annoy, my kids are thrilled to be back around other kids.

Not comfortable sending them back because I don’t believe they will be able to execute on the plans and it will be a total cluster frick. The actual virus does not concern me.

Listened in on a school zoom conference this morning, parents will be given the option of in person or on-line.
If parents opt for on-line class, you can not opt back into the school setting until the quarter/semester has been completed.
On-line schooling will require seat time and not just packets. Teachers classes will be filmed and upload for the on-line students for the following day.

Which is exactly why social media is a HUGE driver of this ongoing extreme overreaction. It blurs our perspective because often times you are only getting the perspective of the most vocal and, erroneously, extrapolating that to be indicative of the population at large. Any dissent to purported "correct" opinion is often times shot down or criticized with such vigor that most feel it's just easier (and safer) to not say anything at all.
Now, to be fair, this board is a bit of its own echo chamber as well. But don't believe that the opinion of the most vocal on social media is representative of the population at large

Our school administration says they have a plan, but the flyer they sent out to parents was complete fluffy bullshite. blah blah blah masks, blah blah blah distancing, blah blah blah cleaning.
I want to know WTF they are going to do when a teacher, student, teacher's spouse, or student's parent comes down with COVID. Because if they dont have a plan for that then they are probably going to freak out, overreact, and send everyone home.

As of now, my child's school plans on opening at full capacity. Masks required in hallways but not in classrooms.
If they go back to distance learning, and the teachers are only lesson planning and grading papers - leaving me and my wife to teach my child - I fully expect a discount on my tuition.

Me and my wife are moving our toddler and newborn into an at-home sitter because the daycare that she goes to keeps shutting down over each individual positive case. I don't see how schools aren't going to do the same thing.
Get ready for your kids to be at home no matter if the school board says they can go back or not
