But as other posters noted- move to The Woodlands.

The only thing the Woodlands trumps Kingwood on is places to eat. There is a much better selection of places to grub there imo, but I am in the back of Kingwood and pretty much draw the line at traveling outside the wire very often.

Woodforest in Montgomery County. Awesome community. Great public schools. Take 105 into Beaumont. Traffic free. I commute to Beaumont often.

Agree 1000%. I’ve lived in Kingwood since 1996. You couldn’t pay me enough to move to The Woodlands.

OP...Kingwood schools are fantastic. You can hardly go wrong. No need to send them to St. Matha’s or wherever. I’d be willing to wager Kingwood public schools are better than its private schools.

We’ve been in Kingwood for 10 years and absolutely love it. It’s a nice area with great schools. Avoid Forest Cove because it’s right along the river and floods during bad storms.

On that point, they’ve been drudging the river 24/7 for the past year it seems so I’m hoping the floods are a thing of the past. Plus there are big lawsuits pending against a few local home builders who bulldozed a few hundred acres of lush forest without the proper permits, which was also a major contributor to the recent flood.

Not that familiar with the area, but after making the move to TX, I would be surprised of the general consensus is not that the TX public school system is superior to almost anything in LA outside the expensive private schools. You pay for them with extremely higher property tax, but no state income tax. I felt like I got a raise with the move.

All a long time ago for me, but all I speak with that make the move today, say the same thing. Raise the kids & come on home when they are gone :-)

A guy who is looking to move to Kingwood would never consider Friendswood or Clear Lake. Those are so far apart.

Might as well tell him to look at Cinco Ranch or Sugar Land.

Kingwood has good schools. It is a nice, safe community with reasonable prices for housing. And it floods a lot.

For Houston the areas with good schools

Southwest: Sugar Land
Southeast: Friendswood, Clear Lake, Pearland although not as good
North: the Woodlands
Northeast: Kingwood
West: Memorial, Katy, Cinco Ranch

Inner Loop: if you are zoned to River Oaks, West University, Bellaire, and parts of Montrose.

If the house you’re looking at to purchase in KW didn’t flood to date, chances are you’re good. I’ve had kids in Catholic schools in La and in public elementary, middle and high schools here in KW. I consider the schools here in KW to be just as good if not better. As others have said there was a development with mismanaged drainage that affected parts of KW. Also not a bad drive to Beaumont.

My husband needs to be able to get to Beaumont as well as Houston, so we want to stay on the East side of Houston.

I would go Clear Lake over Kingwood

Unless you're talking about the elite private schools (inner loop area) or the CHarter schools in the 'hood the Public schools are as good the private

Agreed. Not to mention you are already paying property taxes much higher than Louisiana to have good public schools. Why pay double to send to private?
