Anyone live in a neighborhood that is older and has no trick-or-treaters?

Not older as in the physical neighborhood, but old in the sense that all the kids in the area grew up and no parents are moving away, so no young families are really in the immediate area?

I haven't had a trick-or-treater ring the bell in probably 4 years. I don't live in a rural area where there is no one. I live in a exurban community.

20 years ago, it was a new community. Young parents moved in, had kids, so at one point there were mobs of kids every Halloween. Would never go a minute without more coming to the door. The kids all grew up relatively around the same time, and no new young kids are taking their places.

It's honestly sad to see. My favorite holiday and it's a ghost town out there right now.

Get off my porch!

Baby Boomers should give those houses (and their jobs) to Millenials.

The so-called Greatest Generation ruined this country.

(Am I doing this right?)

We haven't had any in years. But there's a lot of newer subdivisions around with sidewalks and better lighting and houses closer together. I don't blame the kids for passing up our street.

I live in an older community. Very few kids in the area, it was quiet all evening.

My neighborhood is relatively new (about 50-60 homes right now) and is mostly older folks. It's also gated so no outside trick or treaters come in. For the last 3 years my kids have literally been the only trick or treaters. The first year we moved here it caught the residents off guard and we had people scrambling for candy to give - one lady gave my daughter mints and another gave her 4 quarters. They are more prepared now and love it, even though it's usually just my kids and the kids of a new couple that moved in earlier this year.

We love Halloween so we do our church's trunk or treat every year so we can dress up and have a good time.

I have been in my house 8 years and never had a trick or treater come to my door. It’s a 1 street cul de sac neighborhood with mostly single professionals and some retirees. It’s great! Was worried because a family with 2 kids moved on to my street. I figured that was it for the neighborhood but so far I haven’t heard or seen them at all. I bought candy in case they brought them by. But didn’t happen. Win again cause I got candy to eat!

My street dead ends to audubon park, we haven’t had a trick or treater in the 2 years we’ve been here. The street that runs perpendicular to our street though has tons of kids out in about. Some lucky panhandler is going to get a 116 piece Reecees, snickers, jolly rancher mix bag tomorrow on my commute to work.

I'm not sure what it's like elsewhere, but I took my kids around the neighborhoods here and it was sporadic as can be.

When I was growing up, you went out to the houses in your neighborhood. Maybe a friend or two from outside of town would come over to join you, but kids weren't getting bussed in and shite like they do now. In the few neighborhoods that still have pretty healthy participation, it's nothing but cars on the streets as kids are driven from door to door by people from elsewhere. It's a total clusterfrick.

Like you said, it's a pretty bleak outlook in most places.

I live in the same kind of area. Built just over 20 years ago.

Lots of families with school age kids back then, but now they're all older. Some of the homeowners have a few grandkids that trick or treat in the neighborhood, but not many. We had five come by this year. And that's above normal.

In. I am the Clark W Griswold of Halloween external illumination and my house had a total of 5 wads of trick-or-treaters. 5. I have columned porches that I deck out in purple (actual purple, not pink lights, purple lights are hard to find) and orange lights with intricate webs and spiders. I have several strands of path lighting - skulls, pumpkins and witches. Not to mention several plastic pumpkins and 4 actual carved pumpkins - and my doorbell rang 5 times. 5. I think next year I am gonna do one carved pumpkin like we used to do in the 70's.

I live in the middle of the city and no Trick or treaters......but the biggest party/ candy giving street for Halloween is 5 blocks away from me so that sucks everything away from here......which I don't mind.

The gate keeps them out of my neighborhood. The adjacent streets outside of the gate are too hilly for trick or treaters. A mile, mile and a half, down the road it levels out and people from all over town bring their kids to load up on candy.

I am also kind of sad we don't get kids trick or treating anymore. I used to enjoy giving out candy and seeing all of the different costumes and scaring kids and chatting with the parents.

I think if we had ten to a dozen kids last night, that would be about all. I had a good supply of treats - gave it out by the handfuls. Told kids to grab a bunch from the basket I was offering. They seemed reluctant and politely took one or two things. Curious. A lotta leftovers today. Deliberately got stuff I wouldn’t eat - in case. Skittles. Dum Dums. Also Rice Krispie treats, little Halloween size bags of pretzels and cheese puffs.

This was the smallest crowd I've ever seen on my street.
We've lived here for 18yrs. We didn't even have the usual outside element bused in to trick or treat.
