Acquaintances invented self checkout. One guy was bat shite crazy and insisted it worked. Other guy was funny as hell and freely admitted it needed improvement.

When I go use self checkout and it messes up I blame dave (crazy guy)

Another guy I know invented some kind of digital imaging piece for sonograms and is still inventing.

Another invented the focus piece on the chemo machine.

All great people

wo weird chicks at my HS....they kinda only hung with each other... anyway, I remember at our reunion that one of them had gone to invent Post-Its

Someone above said that the inventor of Post Its was a husband at DuPont or 3m. Either y’all know the same people, or one of you is incorrect.

One of my HS teachers (also school's football coach) created a power squat apparatus where you're on an elevated platform with the weight hanging from a belt below you to reduce back injury back in the 80s.

He sold it to multiple NFL and college teams. Made quite a bit of money off of it.

FIL has a few patents from what I understand. He is retired now but former oil & gas engineering field I think. All I know is it keeps my MIL in the QVC ordering lifestyle she has become accustomed to.

Big house, super nice cars and boat, etc but seriously QVC addiction is real.

Know of several oil field hands that invented or made some type of offshore shite that made them a good bit of money. Daughters were ugly, couldn't pull the trigger on em.

Wiki says David Humble invented the machines. But I heard a Planet Money episode with Dr. Howard Schneider, who is often credited for inventing the process. The first ones were used in a Price Chopper in Clifton Park, New York in 1992.

Howard struggled with it and sold the company for just enough to buy a house and car. Years later the company sold for $30 million.

Great grandfather and his team of researchers invented the Grain dryer that goes on grain bins.

Grandfather and his partner had a lab and created an organic process that eliminated e-coli and salmonella bacteria from meats and produce and extended the shelf life of food an additIonal 2-3 weeks. Did not make a lot of money off it because large food processors refused to admit that food quality was an issue and most wouldn’t implement the process. A few small processors use it though but it never took off in a big way. Had a contract to manufacture and sell small units through Cabelas to do the process at home but it fell through because they hired incompetent people to deal with that manufacturing and kept missing deadlines.

My grandfather being a doctor is one of those brilliant men when it comes to medicine, disease, biology but when it comes to business, not so much

I've had a few clients patent something and sell the patent off for millions with one in the tens of millions. Obvioiusly I can't say much, but I can say that medical patents are worth some serious cash.

I invented a prduct to keep cereal from getting soggy called the "Crunch Enhancer". It's a non-nutritive cereal varnish. It's semi-permiable. It's not osmotic. What it does is it coats and seals the flake, prevents the milk from penetrating it.

Hopefully you can make enough to get a new pool with that invention

I coined the phrase "junk in the trunk". Haven't seen a dime from it, though.

My wife says her grandfather invented the port-a-potty, but he never tried to patent it.

A distant cousin led the team that developed the CMOS image sensor. Basically the technology that allowed phones to become cameras.

My dad invented a little timer gadget to enhance pullstrings for duck hunters. Got a patent and sold probably about 75-100 on ebay, probably made a couple hundred profit but he mostly did it for fun.
