When I did my psychiatry rotation in med school, my rotation group noticed that a TON of the patient worked in restaurants. Mainly wait staff, but some chefs.
I think it is a field that it is easy to get another job if you get fired or just don't show up for a while.

It’s a field with a lot of drug use, random sketchy people who just want to get by. Some love the social aspect, getting wasted with staff, doing heroin etc. restaurant staffs are all fricking each other and doing crazy shite, not a stable industry at all

By the end of the rotation we had a list of local places we didn't want to go back in because we didn't want an awkward scene in a restaurant where you recognize someone from the pysch ward.

As it turns out- he appeared on an episode of "Chopped" and lost an entire restaurant that left a ton of employees high and dry when their paychecks bounced. Sounds like scum to me...
