Or diary - we’ll go with journal.
Sounds more manly. Every documentary you watch is largely based on a person’s journals. Is that something that people just did back in the day or did they have a measure of self regard that their status necessitated leaving something for posterity?

I wonder if the “elite” of today still keep journals or has posting on social media replaced that. And there will be no written letters left behind that’s for sure.

My life is too damn boring to even consider keeping a journal and if it wasn’t so boring then I’d complain that I wouldnt have the time.

On Reddit they're called Field Notes.

I do. I try to write in it after big family events, and give a paragraph or 2 on what silly things the kids are doing at that age.

In my younger days it helped me make big decisions. Seeing it on paper and thinking my on it made things just seem easier.

Here’s an old entry from mine-

(Cue Ashoken Farewell)

May 31, 1864
Cold Harbor, Virginia

My dearest Philomena,

Until now, the Federals have kept their distance but the steady percussion of their artillery punctuates my every dream of you. I have taken to frequently checking my pocket watch too often thinking of what you are doing. I know that your loins burn for the probing action of my member, whilst I cannot reach your nether regions from this distance, (even with my auspicious man tool), my ardor is neither dampened nor diminished by the miles that separate our beings.

Know that, even if I do not return to you and our bedchamber, my last thought in this vale of tears will be of the pleasure of me freeing my seed into your mouth as you longingly gaze towards me.

Admiringly, your ever patient companion,

Lt Col Sxxxxx Xxt

In the 21st century, your Google history is your journal.

No

But occasionally if I have a thought or observation that I think is useful I might jot it down somewhere

If I'm work I usually just put it in a word document that gets deleted the next day

No. Nobody cares about the mundane life of a high school English teacher with teens, a dog, and a mortgage.

My penchant for blunt caffeine fueled sarcasm in class and when I wear a shorter skirt or dress are probably worth a free pamphlet, but meh.

I keep a small pocket notepad and jot everything down it. It really helps when I need to account for time and find a phone #

As I start fishing the local bay, I plan to keep a Field Notes to journal my bay fishing. Figure it will be cool to read back upon decades later.

I am sure you have had influence of a student's life at some point, whether you know it or not. Or maybe a student has had an affect on your life in some way. At least you do something that allows you to have some type of impact in other people's lives, I am sure you have something to write about.

I think my oldest brother does keep a journal and he reads them at times. I called him to mention something we had talked about a few years ago and he said he remembered it and would call me back. When he did he mentioned the date, day, time of day and what it was we discussed. Amazing..... really!

No but a hilarious series on Netflix called Mortified is all about adults reading their journals that were written when they were teens. They read it front of the cameras and and a live audience .
