I’ve always wanted to join but now I’m running out of time.

Pros/Cons

How often are you deployed and for how long?

How did it effect your job?

I’d be going in as a physician.

TIA

A physician who doesn't know the proper use of "affect" and "effect."

Simple rule: Affect is a verb. Effect is a noun.

A verb shows action. A noun is a person, place or thing. Effect is a thing.

Pro: You get to sit around on a boat
Cons: Everyone will think you are a homosexual on a boat

I almost put "usually" in front of verb and noun just to satisfy the purists. But then I thought, "Nah, this is the O-T."

I'm a professional who is in the Army reserves. Downsides? You'll lose a shite ton of money when you have to serve. You'll only have three weekends/year for the next 6-8 years (it's never just one weekend/month). And the ~3-6 month school stint will also hurt the pocketbook. Not sure what it is in the Navy, but it was 6 months in the Army.

I'd look at all the branches pretty thoroughly before choosing. I would never in a million years want to join the Navy.

I was thinking navy because i thought they were the most medical of the branches. I may be wrong though.

If you are a physician then you need to talk to some people that are physicians in the reserves. End of story I'd think. The difference between the professionals and others would be drastic.

I have a friend that's in the navy reserves. He's gone quite often but he also chooses to do more deployments then he has to I believe. He has a cush government job and they DGAF about his reserve time for the most part.

But I don't believe anything he says really. He acts like he is a navy seal and instead goes and does office bitch work for like 4 months at a time in some base far from any action.

What makes you want to go reserves as a physician? I'd honestly do something different where you can get your sense of wanting to serve over if I was you. Reserves if its anything like normal reserves would suck as a physician, but I can't imagine it would be.

I'd think you'd be better off just taking a sabbatical and go do the peace corp or volunteer in a 3rd world country for a year or something.

Yes, but I'm retiring soon. Been in 24 years and never got deployed, but I'm not a doctor.

Doctors can barely read their own writing and you're schooling one on proper grammar? Yeah, good luck.

I've been active duty for 15 years.....I couldn't do the reserves thing, the ones we work with are constantly getting fricked with last minute taskings and trying to get Army work done around their day jobs.

Just my opinion but if oyu want to serve just do a four-year stint, reserves is the worst of both worlds.
