Anyone here familiar with Flagstaff?

You like doing outdoors stuff? Mountain bike and road scene there is really good. Plus hiking, camping, running, etc.

Great area. Sedona is lovely.

One of my favorite places in this country. I have family and friends there, and spent a good bit of time there as a kid with my uncle as a professor at the university back in the day.

There are literally endless things to do there outdoors. It’s heaven on earth for that IMO, and it doesn’t hurt that the mountain air just inspires you to be outside and enjoy all it has to offer.

i spent a week there for work. it's pretty great IMHO. it seemed expensive, but not stupid expensive.

i don't pity you.

You're going to love it.

Grad school = high cost of living. Just the reality of being a student. I assume you're on fellowship?

But Flagstaff is a vacation destination for many. You're an hour to Sedona. You're an hour to the Grand Canyon. You're two hours to the city lights of Phoenix. Vegas is drivable.

Hell, even Los Angeles is drivable.

Slept there when traveling on a road trip. Felt as though I’ve never breathed air so clean. If you’re outdoorsy it’s heaven on earth.

Haven't been in a few years but I remember there being some nice bars and restaurants.

Most bizarre weather I've ever seen was in Flagstaff. Driving into town from the east in April 2014, I went through a blizzard with big wet blobs of snow hitting my windshield. Car thermometer said it was low 30s outside. Ten minutes later I pulled into my hotel parking lot and it was sunny and 65 degrees out.

Visited a buddy out there once. He was telling me how his brother went hiking in the hills and found some really cool Indian artifacts. The next day we take off through the hills exploring, I spot something on the ground that looks interesting, picked it up it was an old dried out tampon. That’s all I got

Flagstaff is amazing. You will love it there.
