Anyone here ever bought a house with a shared driveway?

Looking at a property with a shared drive way. Looks like it was 2 family members that built side by side and chose to do one drive way about 75 yards long that splits to go to each house. Anyone here share a driveway with their neighbors? Any issues in the past?

The only issues really are going to be who will be doing the up keep if it is gravel and or cutting grass around it or whatever else.
Both parties are responsible for half, of any work done. More than likely one property has the driveway listed on their survey map as the dominant property. Which means if they are assholes, they think they can tell you what to do because technically it's theirs, but they can't keep you from access to your property, as long as it is considered a servitude.
it can be a pain in the arse when you don't have parties who care or want to up keep anything with shared property.

If you have any problems with the neighbors take it to the Feud

Seriously? This is the OT. You have to get past my guards and gate to even see my private driveway. Geez....shared driveway SMH.

My first house had about 18 ft of a shared driveway. No issues with the neighbors thankfully, but you may want to ask your realtor for a copy of the survey so you can see where the property line is. 75 yards is a lot of space to share. Good luck

I have one now and have lived in the house 19 years. Single entrance that splits. You don’t get snow like we do here but when it does snow usually both of us clear it together. Also, I pull in and can turnaround and back into my garage. Wife backs out of garage and can turnaround to pull out on street forward.
Bottom line is I actually like it.

Guess you never heard the old time saying, share a driveway today, share a wife tomorrow.

Not a shared driveway but my driveway is right next to neighbors driveway. I'm lucky to have good neighbors but it's not an issue for me and actually is good when people are over and parked in the driveway then can use the neighbors to get out if a car is behind them

I can speak to this. My property has a common driveway in the back that serves five houses. There is a Servitude agreement that binds all five properties and covers everything from ownership and usage rights to maintenance responsibilities. It is several pages long. Absolutely no way I would purchase the property without such a document involved.
Even in the presence of such a document, the crazy old lady at the end of the drive has been convinced for years that it is HER driveway. To the point that she has initiated legal action against two of my neighbors for various aspects. She is such an insufferable bitch that I spent $24k to put in my own private drive, new entry way and powered gate through the wall surrounding my compound. Luckily I am on the end and had the ability to put the private entrance on the side of my property out to the road. The three houses between me and the crazy bitch are landlocked and don’t have that option.
Long story short, don’t buy the property without a properly detailed legal agreement in place. Even if the current neighbors are awesome, that could all change in the blink of an eye with a single argument or sale of the adjoining property to someone new.

No. But I do share my helipad.

Personally I wouldn't do it. Price it in to the house for sure. Most of the shared driveways I see are because the developer tried to slam an extra lot or two where another lot or two really shouldn't be. So not only do you have a shared driveway but you have an odd lot.
Chances are you will be fine, but personally I wouldn't want to risk having to deal with the neighbor like that.

My house is on a private road that is essentially a shared gravel drive with 4 houses. We have not had any issues. Everyone pitches in for maintenance costs which are minimal. I could see it being problematic if you had one neighbor who refused to help, but if it wasn't shared, you would have the same amount of upkeep on your own.
