Anyone here ever bought a car from Carmax?

At first glance they seem to have decent prices and a good selection. Do they do anything sketchy like force you to finance through them at bad rates?
If not Carmax, what are some good places to get used cars, wether it be online or in person?

One of the parents on my son's basketball team did, said it was the easiest and most honest way ever.
They bring you the car, you drive it and either keep it or return it.
No pressure, no up sale, no BS

I had a good experience at CarMax. I like the setup online and shopping on the app. I was able to find a few vehicles I liked before I went to test drive them.
I went with financing already from my credit union, but they were a little pushy about financing through them. That was the only negative in my experience.

Hit craigslist. Aside from individuals many small dealers and New car dealerships advertise on there.
I just bought a used truck. I watched prices for almost two months. I just looked on Carmax. Carmax is several thousand dollars more expensive than even the dealerships online advertised prices.

Carmax will not be the best price but you don’t have to waste time haggling. How much is your time worth? How much do you hate negotiating?

"seems" like a good deal, the only thing i would worry about is how well they stand behind the warranty coverage, some companies are good up until something major happens and then want to fight honoring warranties. if and engine or tranny shite the bed just after purchase would be my only concern.
if you can find reviews from people who had that happen and see how things went for them returning it for refund, thats the key

I did not have to haggle at the dealership I went to. The online price they showed was several thousand cheaper than carmax price. After researching for two months the price wasnt bad compared to anything but individuals. Also had a free car fax, it was 1 owner. Got a pimp detail, and people I know in my community made money.

I always use Car Max to see what my trade in value is.

We bought our cars from Carmax. It’s easy and they offered a warranty on both vehicles.
You won’t be haggling for a lower price though.

Had a good experience. I think you can find better prices elsewhere but they are known for their reliability and not putting out clunkers. Peace of mind buying a quality used car is worth the extra money to me and I'd buy from them again

I bought my truck from them in November. Definitely recommend.
Did the test drive and all the paperwork in about an hour. I shopped around pretty extensively and chose CarMax because of the simplicity of the process.

I bought one from Carmax. Shopped online, picked the payment I wanted, went and drove it with no pressure. I went with my bank's interest rate and can't complain about the process at all. They really do let you pick what you want/like and help you decide with no pressure.

My Dad just bought a car from them and raved about how easy it was.

Do they get most of their cars from rental companies?

Not that I'm aware of. I think what they get is mostly leased cars that people turn in at the end of the lease period. Low miles,up to date maintenance records, etc. They do get trade-ins but if they are not up to Carmax specs, they don't hit the lot.

We've bought a minivan and a car from them.
Had looked at a bunch online both times. Went out and test drove some. Found what we wanted.
No negotiation or BS. No forcing or trying to twist arms on BS upsells. Both times, there was a balance of the manufactor warranty remaining, and I did not buy an extended warranty. Both times, the vehicles hit well over 100K miles before a hint of trouble.
Both times, financed through a credit union. The first time, we had a bit of a hiccup. The paperwork from the credit union wasn't exactly what they needed, and it was on a Saturday and the CU was closed. They allow you to change your financing options within 5 days with no questions. We were concerned the minivan might not last till Monday, so we bought it using their financing. Monday morning, I was at the CU at 9 am getting the right papers, and by 11 am I was leaving CarMax having made the change.
Second time we bought from them, we made sure we had the right papers. We told them about it, and they said if we wanted to just roll with that we could, or, they could run their financing to see if they could beat it. We let them run it, they could not beat it. No pressure at all.
Most recent car I bought, we went to a local dealership for a used car, and it was a 4 hour long production with endless amounts of bullshite. Probably ended up saving 300-400 there over what it would have been at CarMax. My time is probably worth 100 an hour, so I guess it was worth it, but it just annoyed me.
TL,DR: not the cheapest but the best experience
