the one about praying to Mary really perplexes me. I’ve never seen that in the Bible.
Because it's just not in there.

Idk how an infant can “repent and be baptized”.
And I realize some Catholics cite the verse about “households” being baptized before anyone brings that up.
But once again this isn’t the purpose of this thread.

Once you realize that our posts are a large part of this thread, you will see that somebody from St Bernard parish gives two shits about the Baptist Church in Houston

Give us some context is this gemstone rockband church, snakes and sparklers, Jesus needs a jet or more traditional?

More along the lines of a traditional Baptist church. Choir in early service. Some more modern music in later service.
But it’s a big church with several campuses around the Houston area.

Crack open the Bible sometime and see if Jesus was sprinkled as an infant.
He wasn’t baptized as an infant, but that’s not why we get baptized….
Baptism is about forgiveness, and salvation. Jesus never sinned and therefore did not need salvation, or forgiveness.

Baptism has nothing to do with salvation. It has to do with identification with Christ. It is a simple act of obedience to the command of Christ. It is symbolic.
Catholic churches baptized by immersion past the third century.
The word Baptism is the Bible in the original Greek means to dip or plunge.
Scripture says Jesus went down into the water and was baptized.

Don’t worry—catlics say she’s the mediatrix so it doesn’t contradict. It’s like in Lord of the Rings when “no man can kill” the Ringwraith.
Also, remember all those infants baptized in Acts? Super cool.

I’m so glad I converted out of the heretical evangelical megachurch universe after 58 years into the one, true, apostolic and universal Church.

You’re just wrong, at least according to the Catholic Church.
Baptism is not merely symbolic, it is an efficacious sacrament that leaves an indelible mark on our soul. Baptism cleanses us of our original sin, infuses Grace, and grafts the individual into the body of Christ- The Church.

Some of the growth the church is due to just location. It was “burbs” in the 70s and now the center of white rich west Houston
Getting on TV, multiple locations, the self promotion, ect is very mega church IMO. Even if the teachings and service are more baptist
In a lot of ways, Ed young walked so Joel Olsteen could run. Why this story has gotten a lot of traction is because the veneer is being dropped and he wants to keep the grift going for his family.

Well those "creeds" were not written until hundreds of years after Jesus crucifixion and resurrection, so I am not particularly worried about their wordage.
There were heretical branches of Christianity breaking out in the first two or three centuries after the death of Christ. The leaders of the "real"* Christian church worked diligently to define what it meant to be a "real" Christian. The Nicene Creed essentially spells out what that is. So the "creeds" are important. Do you think Christianity we see today just happened without effort to preserve true beliefs? In the early times of the church it hadn't been decided what books (in fact there was no New Testament you could thumb through a bible to read) were in the New Testament**. We need to thank those Fathers of the Church*** for putting in the work to assemble and define Christian canon.
* real = what is practiced today either Protestant or Catholic.
** there were "books" offered to be part of the NT that were utter nonsense and rejected.
*** some early Fathers of the Church interacted with Apostles. Many of them were martyred.

Who prays to Mary?
You know it was Mary, through a vision to a Mexican peasant and miracles done, that converted millions and millions of Mexican, Central American and South American indigenous people to Christianity in the 1500s. At that time they were still sacrificing their people to the gods. So it is clear that she is a pretty special person. Don't throw shade on her.
