We had a cockatiel for about 5 years. Thought it was a male, then one day I found an egg in her cage. I clipped her wings. She had such a personality and did funny stuff. She loved Cheerios. We forgot to lock her in her cage one day and went out for an errand and our dog got a hold of her. RIP. A very sad day for the kids.

I have a couple of parakeets that my 9 year old wanted. Other than the feathers and seeds you clean up daily they’re not too bad.

Research how long they live on average

My friend has had one for at least 30 years. I think it's supposed to live to be 75

All I know is birds that are constantly loud are annoying as frick. I dated a girl whose parents had birds and they all sucked. And their house smelled terrible all the time (but they also had other pets and were extremely messy people).

Depending on the type of birds, be careful getting a pair. They may only like each other and not you. Had a pair of peach faced love birds like that. Also has single sun conure that had about a 50 word vocabulary and loved people. They are all messy.

Look for the nearest bird show. Talk to the breeders in person. Make sure whatever you get that it’s hand fed from hatching.

Just don’t take them to Lowes. People who do that are the worst.

My wife loves birds so yes we have several. It's very demanding depending on what type of bird you get. Some can live for 80 years

Our African Grey

Our Umbrella Cockatoo and Moluccan Cockatoo

Out Green Cheeked Conures

Our Indian Ringnecks

>

My wife's latest purchase a baby Sun Conure

They have their own room. The room is about 400 sq ft and it has air filtration to keep the dander down. It's a lot of work to keep it all clean but my wife loves the birds so much that she doesn't mind.

The Umberall cockatoo is my best friend. He rides with my in my truck and jams out to music.

You have to keep cages clean and run HEPA air filters 24/7 otherwise it can get smelly. I put an air filtration system built for a 1000 sq ft room in their 400 sq ft room. It works. No smell and it's good for the birds because their lungs are very sensitive and filthy air can kill them.

I rescued an African Grey about 15 years ago. Easy to care for, never gets sick, speaks fluently when he feels like it. Has actually called my dogs in my voice. Super super smart. He’ll throw a temper tantrum every now and then if I give myvborder collies too much attention over him. I let him out of the cage occasionally to let him explore but never have problems returning him to his castle. Gets along well with both borders, which i initially was concerned about. All in all great addition to the household

I think more people got the NI haircut thing, but it wasn't that funny of a gag and people just decided to respond about bird ownership.

I don't own any birds, but I keep a couple of feeders out in my yard and I can just watch them through my kitchen window (and a squirrel or two on occasion). A lot easier and I enjoy it.
