I’ve torn my meniscus. I start rehab Monday and I’m wondering if anyone here was able to do just rehab to to take care of it.

I didn't rehab but had surgery. Took a few weeks for swelling and extra pain to go away. Took over a year for it to feel normal. I lived with pain for years and it's finally gone.

But post surgery pain was more than the surgeon said it would be....

I think you will need surgery if you want to be 100% again. You can get by, but it will likely turn into arthritis.

Therein lies the problem. For me any surgery would be problematic. If there is anyway possible to avoid it, that would be better.

Nope and I went to PT for quite a while to try to do so. Had surgical clean out on the left and the right. Not a fatty either — have had no issues since. Like I literally wanted to rip my leg off st night on the left side — it would swell and was awful.

ZERO ISSUE since.

Had one done in October and the other in December of 2014.

Dr Adam Perry in Lafayette.

Depends on the location and extent of the tear

I had it scoped and ran the crescent city classic 13 days later. Get that shite fixed permanently

Eta I forgot you have a tendency to die during surgery.

Did your calf and ankle swell also?

Had my right knee cleaned up by Dr Pope in BR after tearing mine. No therapy would help my situation. It would fold in resulting in pain and swelling. Took a few weeks to recover from surgery. Noticeable difference in knee function but pain no longer there.

The real problem is my mechanical mitral valve. Because of the valve, I have to take Coumadin. To have surgery I have to stop Coumadin and instead take a fast acting blood thinner via injection in the stomach. I do this for a week before surgery then the day of surgery I take no injections. The day after surgery I go back to injections for several days before resuming Coumadin. The real problem is the chance of developing a blood clot around the valve during this whole process.

Depends on where the tear is. The outer areas of the meniscus tend to have more blood supply, thus more potential for non-operative healing.

If it’s more internal and/or a flap of tissue that keeps putting your knee in a bind and perpetuating your inflammation, surgery likely is best.

I assume hyperbaric oxygen therapy would actually heal many cases.

It would depend on how severe the tear was. But hbot pushes blood into areas with limited to no blood flow. It also increases the number of stem cells circulating in the blood by a múltiple of 8.

HBOT is incredibly useful when it comes to healing damage - be it bones, or soft tissue. You see accelerated repair, but also less scar tissue.

I think was Beckham who playing soccer weeks after breaking a leg (?) when the normal recovery time was months.

Had surgery and then rehab for two weeks. I was running on a treadmill the last two days. All I can say is stretch as much as possible and ice after.

It's possible but absolutely matters how bad your tear is. Strengthened the quad helped a great deal. What mine did was create an enlarged bursa sac on top of the knee cap. Comes and goes without pain. Good luck.

Mud checking at your age has its risks.

PS: Good luck on your outcome and please try not to die again.
