Mid-forties. We’ve been empty nesters for several years because our youngest went to LSMSA. He is 21 and lives in Ruston where he goes to Tech

It’s like alajones2 and I are in synchronization sometimes. I had been thinking about it seriously for weeks. And she just brought it up a few days ago out of the blue. We’ve signed up for the classes.

It’s not like we’ve got some hole we’re trying to fill. I just think I’ve still got more to do on this earth.

We technically had to foster our son before adopting. You're experience will all be determined by your attitude, the bio parents, and the judge you get

I think it’s an awesome thing but it has to be brutal at times to see what goes on out there.

I'm guessing it's terribly rewarding and terribly trying at times, but I'm sure it's worth it.

No experience, but may God bless you and your wife; fostering is surely the Lords work, and I would like to be able to one day as well.

These aren’t mutually exclusive

I see nothing wrong with wanting to be parents again, especially considering it sounds like you killed it with the first one.

If your a little older snd biology isn’t on your side then your a great person for being willing to help out a foster child.

Couldn’t think of a better way to spend time than raising kids. I love my little ones to death

My cousin and his wife do. They’ve now adopted 6 of them. They’re in their 50’s and the youngest they adopted turned 2 a few months ago.

Good luck.

There are plenty of children out there who need love and a good home life . Sounds like you’ll be able to provide both

It can be a horrifying experience. Some friends of mine fostered for a while and they got to a point that they had to return the children. A girl they were fostering threatened to harm their biological children and they continued to find knives in her bedroom she had taken from the kitchen. This girl was 7.....

Later they lost the other children because it was determined that DSS had removed the children from the biological parents under false pretenses.

I’m not trying to discourage you, but just be aware that these children come from extremely poor situations and will require specific care.

Poker buddy of mine has fostered a few in his time. One of them was a 13year old girl. She stole his car and drunkenly wrapped it around a tree.

We only do it for the money.

Got 7 of those right now. Almost have enough for the 2021 Yukon XL LT in the child welfare account. If we can bag two more, we’ll be set by June.

Since were not legally married, it’s easy for her to claim head of household on 4 of them and I take the other three.

It’s not a country club life but we manage and the direct deposits come like clockwork. Plenty leftover after bread and velveeta sammies most of the time.

What state and what do you want to know about it? DCFS and laws in each state are different.

Wife (no pics) and I have been in the foster system for 4+ years in Louisiana and have three kids we adopted after being with us for over three years. We recently picked up a four day old baby from the hospital right before Christmas to take care of through the New Year whose (sp?)mom brought into this world positive for drugs.

I’ll be honest with you...it fricking sucks 98% of the time.

My wife and I are in our early fifties and have never had any children. We might be too old to follow in your footsteps, but we are interested in fostering as well for much the same reason - there is just too much left on this earth for us to do.

Keep us updated with how everything goes. We would very possibly like to follow in your footsteps and provide a home to a child who needs good parents and guidance.

Thanks for being such a wonderful, unselfish person who is considering opening your home to a young person in need. You're alright in my book!
