Looking have family heirloom shipped about 1000 miles. I don't think it's worth much, per say, but would like it if it makes sense. No time frame needed, just needs to get out of where it is now. Anyone do this? Any advice on how to get it done cheaply? TIA

Had a car shipped from west Texas to Louisiana professionally for $500. If that helps.

Itll require a truck, and probably depends on weight. So it may be a difference in a box piano or a grand piano

Technically anyone that owns a piano, has. Maybe call a local instrument shop that sells pianos and ask them.

One move I had a large piano, a Haunted House pinball machine (they are heavy as hell), and some giant Scandinavian furniture that was very large and heavy.

The movers hated it. I eventually gave the furniture to my sister, who wisely has never had to move it.

How do you even get a grand piano into a house through normal sized doors?

The whole key is a piano board. It's almost cheaper to buy one than to "rent" one from a moving company.

And if you plan to keep the piano, you'll re-use the board a few more times in your life.

Piggy backing and cross country movers are always a risky situation. You should invent a reason to vacation near by, then drive it back yourself.

1,000 miles isn't that far ... a hard day's drive for one person (very hard), certainly doable for two people. The key is a good excuse (sports, concert) for going that far.

Too much, I’d sell it and build a new one.
