Anyone have a countertop ice maker and do you like it?

My Kenmore Elite refrigerator works fine but the ice maker does not meet the demand of more than 2-3 people. I came across countertop ice makers where you just add water similar to a coffee pot and thought this may be a solution in scenarios where we know people are coming over for parties and suck.

Any experience with these and do they work as advertised?

The problem with the countertop ice makers is that they don't hold ice/keep it frozen.

I would probably just go to Amazon and read the reviews?

My neighbor has one. It great for parties and what not, just don’t leave it running all the time. It’s pretty noisy.

Probably because Amazon reviews are mostly fake and first hand experience is better? Hmm

Why be a jerk to the guy?

We recently got one and we love it. It makes small cubes like a really large industrial ice maker.

check to see that it's not in some sort of energy saving mode, between the kitchen fridge and the laundry room fridge I'm running over with ice, including for boat use, I bag it up in 10 lb. bags and put it out at the boat slip freezer, haven't bought ice in forever

Our ice maker broke a few years ago. I use the electric one and dump extra ice in a plastic bin I came up with in the freezer. that's my work around.

I think all electric ice makers are made by the same company and rebranded. So there isn't much difference from brand to brand. I have a magic chef I believe. works great.

Our ice maker slows down when the water filter in the fridge needs to be changed.

Maybe that’s part of your problem?

There’s also a water inlet solenoid switch somewhere in the back that can corrode and reduce the water flow. $20 part on Amazon and simple to change.

Also, most of those ice makers are easy to swap out. Just don’t go with the cheapest one because it won’t use the paddle mechanism to stop the ice when full but a bar that raises up and gets to the off position too easy when dumping ice, leaving the bin empty.

How is that being a jerk? Probably get better info there is all. And you gotta know how to weed through the fake reviews.

A family member had one in their basement at one point in the bar area. There is a door out to the backyard from there, and watching games or kids playing outside, they would fill it up and turn it on. Worked rather quickly, and they would put it in their garage fridge in a plastic bin. Run it several hours ahead of time and you'd have plenty to last the day.

I just go grab a few 20 lb bags when we're having several people over. Throw a bag in my cooler with cans and another in a bet metal ice bowl we have and replenish as necessary. I usually keep a bag or two in my chest freezer. Don't really make drinks with is, but it is good to ice down some beers and soft drinks without having to make a run to the store. If I'm out I grab another couple of bags next time I go buy groceries.

I have one and it is great. I run it 24/7 and dump the ice into bags of ice and into the deep freezer for when we need coolers and such.

For times when the fridge doesn't keep up or we are hosting it also comes in handy.

This and them needing to be cleaned are the two things to keep in mind. I had one for a long time in my rental house when our fridge quit making ice. I could fill up the ice bin in a few hours letting the ice machine run.

I use one at my vacation house. The kitchen is old and the fridge doesn’t have an ice maker. It does a good job, especially when we have extra people and ice demand is higher than normal.

They also work great for RV’s.
