Quarterly Gout thread has begun.

Had it and it sucks. I get it about once a year. Take the meds from the doctor and pound water. Everyone will tell you it’s because you are a fatty. I could lose a few pounds but I feel like I’m in decent shape. I exercise 3-4 times a week.

Some people have high uric acid levels which causes gout. Certain foods can cause a flare up. Beer, red meat, most seafood etc.

I've had gout twice in the past and it is horrible. I now smoke weed a lot more and have seriously cut down on alcohol and I haven't had any gout issues.

I take colchicine for an unrelated condition to keep my WBC from being aggressive.

It will give you mud butt.

Alpurinol

My dad went on it and went from constant flareups, some of which put him in the hospital, to not having any in 15 years.

Allopurinol is a preventative and you will need to take it the rest of your life, but it works.

If you are in the middle of a flare up, you need the colchicine drug. Never mix these 2 drugs.

Congrats, your body doesn’t process Uric acid like a normal person. Research varies on actual triggers whether it’s from too much meat or processed carbs.

If the pain is bad and can’t be kept at bay with ibuprofen, go to an urgent care and get a steroid shot.

Go see your doctor and get on colchicine or alopurinol. Colchicine used to cost 5-10 cents a pill, but thanks to the government shutting down all the manufacturers only one company exists. Colchicine is now $5 a pill.

I avoided the doctor for 10 years. My most recent flare up was in both feet, one knee, and my hip. I now have an appointment to get this shite fixed.

Is it like crossing the streams where it might undo all of creation, but it might also send an interdimensional demon back to whence it came or is more like mixing bleach and ammonia where you're definitely going to be playing chemical warfare?

There is no getting rid of it. I've had it for years. I take prescription Probenecid, which is a uric acid blocker. It changed my life. I haven't had an attack in the three years I've been on it.

Get a prescription for Prednisone. Everytime I have an attack they give me a 10 day supply, but it usually works in 24-48 hours.

I had 2 bouts of pseudogout since January. Once in my elbow and another in my ankle, both of which are supposed to be rare. For those who don't know pseudogout is the same in terms of symptoms as regular gout but occurs for completely different reasons.

Basically, I went to bed one night feeling just fine and woke up the next morning with my ankle throbbing like it was broken. Dr prescribed NSAIDs water and rest and 3 weeks later its almost gone. It's been one of the most painful experiences of my life and this is coming from someone who's had back surgery.

According to the information I found online pseudogout is caused when crystallization around the joints discharges into soft tissue and causes inflammation but medicine doesn't know exactly what triggers it. Has anyone else dealt with this that can off advice on prevention and treatment?
