Is it really cost effective to have 2 people at $10/hour who dont know shite and just sit around playing on their phones, or 1 person at $20/hour who can direct people to the right product and accessories they will need for the job?

Is there something I'm missing as to why it's beneficial to hire bodies over experienced workers?

I'm not sure I've ever seen a worker in these stores other than 2 check out clerks.

Stocking alone probably justifies their employment

Amen brother.

That place is just the worst. Home Depot seems to be little worse than Lowes IMO.

But, the service is shite.

I don't know really but I'm sure it's more, the person with $10/hour don't get insurance. The person for $20/hour would want/deserve insurance and benefits

Typically, each department has a specialist that knows what they're doing and then bodies that primarily just stock shite and show people where what they're looking for is.

I worked at Lowes for over five years before leaving late last year. You can think obamacare for all retailers getting younger and not as experience. That experience and knowledgable guy is more expensive, but more importantly works 40 hours. So they have to be offered everything. Two 20 year old a in college are working 20 hours a week and aren't required to get shite. Now, I will say Lowe's does offer their part timers something. It's just nothing compared to a full timer

I've seen them, but inevitably when you ask for help it is "not their department"

I go to Ace as much as possible.

The thing about Home Depot is that I do see a lot more workers in the store, but they're always blocking the aisles I need to access.

I worked the night/weekend shift at the one off of highland near I10 for 9 months. I delivered large orders to peoples vehicles and made about $10 an hour in 2007. There was several people who worked there for almost a decade. Pretty much all of them have left since then from what I gather.

Yup. Worked at Lowe's in college.

Great job for a college kid.

Worked an 8 hour shift. Stocked for 4 hours then did homework the other 4. Back then we got paid $7 an hour or something like that.

I worked there for three and a half years as a Commercial Sales Dept Manager. Home Depot is too cheap to pay adequate wages to hourly employees. Anyone who is worth anything is expected to move into management so they can be exploited. Home Depot literally hires people off the street and say here you sell thousand dollar appliances. It's a joke. Do your own research or go to a speciality store.

I had an interview at the Home Depot on Highland Rd. several years ago. I stopped the lady (manager) doing the interview about half way through . Told her to save her time and breath and walked out.

Lowe's pays their employees a significant amount more than Home Depot actually. About 10 Years ago I was offered the same position from both (Lowe's $10.50, Home Depot $8.25) both were full time in the same dept.

The Lowe's in Gonzales is the only one worth going to if you need service IMO, Same with the Depot on Highland. All of the others are like flipping the lights on and watching roaches scatter to keep from being seen.

When I worked there one summer we took turns hiding in the counter top section. They had a secret computer we used to play on espn with that was hidden from view. Kind of like employee of the month except we didnt have to climb anything.

Lowe's is really good for college kids. The lowest paying department is like $10/hr

the worst thing that can happen to me at HD or Lowes is that an associate wants to help give me "advice" on something.

"uhhh, yeah i think this right. yeah it is, 'cause this goes here, see."
