I've been using years a zen chime phone app that's supposed to progressively awaken you, but it's never worked that great and hasn't seemed to have made the waking experience any more pleasant than a normal alarm clock. Thinking about trying one of those "sunlight" alarm clocks. These three seem among the most popular and promising:

Considered it, but ended up with a Philips hue smart light bulb instead. Just put it in my bedside lamp and set it to gradually brighten at a certain time each morning.

Had one for years but it always went off before sunrise. Was mine defective?

Unless I have an early morning flight, I don’t use an alarm clock.

Pretty liberating, tbh.

Get a fan and set it on a timer. Have it blow on some wind chimes. Or, just use a phone app like most people.

I use Philips model. If you’re not a morning person, then it won’t turn you into one. But it is nice not waking up in the dark.

I wish I were able to get up for work when the sun was already up.

This is what I do as well. Mine is set to a “sunrise” animation where it starts dim and red, and shifts to bright white over like 30 mins.

It definitely helps me wake up in the morning especially this time of year. But it’s probably shitty if your wife gets up at a different time. I guess no more shitty than the alarm clock though.

I've got that first one you posted. Works pretty well. You set it and it gradually "rises" with the light going from a reddish orange to daylight color. Has bird sounds as the alarm too if you want.

Yes, I have the Philips Smartsleep and I highly recommend it. Worked wonderfully and it is fundamentally different to wake up in that way rather than an alarm. I get up fairly early (~4:30am) so the "sun" isn't an option.

That said, I haven't needed it in 16 months due to my "son" waking me up, but still. It was great while it lasted.
