Hindsight 20/20, sure. We were young, had been having some drinks and watching TV.

Ever since that day I monitor storms a lot more closely.

Why in the hell would you purposely want to put your life in danger?

Yes, several times. Have been in 3, 2 of them weren't really strong, but 1 of them flipped our car when I was a kid.
On April 3rd, 1974, we watched the F5 that did so much damage in North Alabama, from a few miles away. That one was so wide, it didn't really look like a tornado, but you could see the debris coming up in the air around it. We knew it was very bad.
There were several more tornadoes that night that we watched. We were in a perfect location to see them, on a hill surrounded by cottonfields, at the NW corner of the Huntsville airport. We had a storm shelter there.
There was so much lightning that night, it was almost like twilight.

Seen three in person.

One jumped up and went overhead later to land and do significant damage NW Ga.

One was off in distance and minor damage but clearly visible in NW GA.

Other was a grouping of them on panhandle that hit inland Destin/Fort Walton. Could watch from vaca tower and maybe the scariest.

Been through 2 but didn’t really see them.

Driving to work about 5:30 AM 5-6 years ago in the pouring rain on country back roads. Rain is coming sideways and there are branches/twigs flying so I stop in the road. Vehicle starts rocking from the heavy winds and I caught a branch right across the top part of the door/cage area of the vehicle which left a nice dent. Was over in a matter of 5-10 seconds but scared the hell out of me. Passed back that afternoon on my way home and there were some snapped trees, roof damage, and a trampoline up in a tree in the area where I ran into problems.

Last year we had a bad storm coming through and I never heard the “train” noise but my wife says she did. My ears started to pop from the pressure drop and we ducked off into the pantry until things cleared. Went outside and my neighbors toof from his shop was gone (with part of it on my fence). Lot of destruction in the neighborhood with trees down and roof damage. I think they classified it as an EF-3. Passed with 50 yards of my house but we only had some downed fence and a little bit of roof damage from flying debris.

The tornado that sacked Tuscaloosa back in 2011 (I believe) lifted and passed over our house, which is about 80 miles to the northeast of Tuscaloosa.

It was wicked....All kinds of debris rained down on us. After it passed we found siding, clothes, mail with Tuscaloosa address.

Wild day for sure.

Saw a crazy low funnel cloud in Norman years ago that formed in to a tornado about 10 minutes later to the east.

So technically no, but would have if I had followed it.

I’ve seen lots of tornadoes. Living in OK for 20+ years and the Tampa,FL area sees lots of water spouts too.

You don’t want to see it up close. I was stuck outside on the south side of the 4-lane divided highway on the edge of Stillwater, OK when 1 came down the median. Windshield was sandblasted and had to be replaced.

Moore 1
Moore 2

Moore 1 I got to watch from the 20th floor of a downtown OKC bldg. We were freaking at the thought of a tornado that size hitting a high-rise building. It turned east towards Tinker AFB before fizzling out. Moore 2 came within 2 miles of my house. I ran to my son's elementary school to pick him up because they didn't have a good shelter situation. We watched it from 2 miles away. Massive inverted cone.

The other two i've seen:

An EF1 in Norman, May of 2015. I dummied up and waited too long to get to the nearby shelter, so me and my 6 y.o. son got caught in the inflow as we ran from the car to the shelter. the inflow was 'only' 90Mph but strong enough to knock down all the parking lot light poles and strong enough to yank him out of the death grip I had on his wrist.

The other was in the mid-80's, we lived near Wiley Post airport and they suffered a lot of damage. That was the first time I experienced the "locomotive train" sound effect - super weird.

My then-fiancee was in Mustang for that F5/F6 El Reno tornado, they were in a shelter so couldn't see it.

Trust me you don’t want it on your bucket list. To answer your question,
I’ve been through three. The last one was a doozy

I was wondering when you would speak up.

Crazy time following that event, and I hope you are doing OK now.

Last year, I hid in the closet on a tornado warning, and it missed us by a mile.

I've been in an earthquake and 2 or 7 hurricanes, but never SAW a tornado.

Yes. Was driving overnights on a Walmart fleet account and stopped in Marysville KS to sleep during the day. At about 3pm the tornado sirens went off and as I was walking to the truck stop shelter, the funnel was visible. Stood outside and watched it pass 2 or 3 miles north of us.

I’ve seen several over the years living in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

If I never see another one I’m good.

There’s a strip just west of Waskom that seems to be a tornado magnet, at least 4 or 5 have crossed I-20 just west of Waskom near 5 Star Buliders within the past 7 years.

That is the path it took. The one I am referencing was when 5 star was on the south side of 20 and was destroyed.
