So a friend of mine lives in Sealy, TX...it's pretty rural. Anyhow, his neighbor just bought about 8 alpacas and a donkey. The animals are confined to a pen on the property line dividing the two tracts.

He says the donkey he-haws all the time and it is driving him nuts. He says the alpacas are quiet.

He wants to know if the donkey will always be loud. I know nothing about donkeys except they have big ears and he-haw.

Thoughts?

Donkeys are pretty badass. They'll protect livestock from dogs and coyotes. You don't want to mess with a donkey.

All animals make noises, though.

It depends. I'm guessing the Donkey is by itself confined? Not very good.

But if it continues that way, yes, it will make that noise.

Tell him to take Eeyore to the donkey show. That'll shut him up.

No, the donkey is with the alpacas. I think they have a large area to roam but it is cross fenced.

I know a guy that bought one and had to get rid of it before it killed him.

I can deal with almost any noises as long as it's not a stereo.

I lived in Sealy for a few years, nice little town. Can't comment on the donkey.

My neighbor across the street has a pasture of about 8 of them. They are extremely obnoxious and decide to make these blood curdling noises at night when I decide to take the trash can to the end of the road. I know they are there and it still scares the shite out of me

Donkeys also make for a good friend to the alpacas or whatever other weird animals he's got, especially if the other animals are yearlings.

Maybe the donkey is lonely and that's why he's crying. You should tell your neighbor to get two or three more donkeys.

I live with Prom, so it's similar.

He hasn't shut up yet.

I'm anxiously awaiting that day.

I put 2 donkeys (males) on my property. They can be nasty. Had to remove one male before the bigger one killed him. Eventually had to get rid of the remaining donkey because he was attacking young male calves too much. Male donkeys can be trouble. They will go after other male animals.
