I'd think it's just a self-defense mechanism. Gronk and Ogg, probably dreamt of going cave-bear hunting and forgetting their spears.
Anxiety, is a way of telling us the stakes are high and preparing the nervous system for action.

I’ve read It means you’re stressing IRL and feeling like you've forgotten something you had to do.
And yes, have that dream all the time.
And yes, have that dream all the time.

I was always back in middle school, though, and had no idea about a quiz or test or something. I always freaked out in the dream and woke up.
In my version of the dream, I find out right before graduation that I failed English 4. I don’t even remember English 4. I remember English 3 because I loved my teacher.

Anyone ever have dreams about being back in school ?
I’m 58, close to retiring and I still have this dream! Had it last night!
Mostly it’s a math class and I show up for the final and realize I don’t know any of the material!
I’m sure it has some deeper meaning, maybe your subconscious telling you something?

Yes. Both the unprepared for class dream and the claustrophobic dorm room.
A neighbor had a stroke and somehow her mind picked a panicked not-ready-for-a-test-in-high school as her nightmare, every night for the rest of her life. The stroke was debilitating, but the nightmare made it even worse.

not as much as I once did, but still fairly often. Same exact circumstances as you describe.

Every once in a while I have a dream I’m in college. Missed drop date for a class I never went to and now meet to take the final and I can’t find where the class is…..
And I graduated 20 years ago….

I dreamt last night that I was stopped by a cop and I was hammered. I had two open containers in the truck that I managed to hide before he got to the window. Somehow he let me go, but I was shitting on myself, then I woke up. I hate dreams especially the real ones. And yea I dream about missing test all the time, it’s aggravating.

Man I thought I was the only one that had that dream. Probably had it 6-7 times until mid 40s. Had a class I’d signed up for and apparently forgot - day before the final and I realize I’ve not been to one single class and don’t even know where it is. Used to panic the shite out of me. I’m sure there’s some root cause for such a dream but haven’t figured it out and thankfully haven’t had that dream in 10 years.

Every few months I have the dream where I've registered for a class and haven't really gone, and now I've got to go take an exam unprepared to graduate.
I have had this dream many times, and with an eerily similar backstory.

did you all skip tons of classes? I did so I assumed that's where it came from.
Again, same story with me. Damn video games and foosball. I wish I had all those quarters back now (and I guess I wish I had gone to class more).

I barely passed my last exam to graduate (IRL) and I still have occasional dreams where they change my grade and I lose my degree

It means that your brain is trying to tell you that you haven't been diligent in preparing for what's occurring in your life now, or what is coming up in the very near and foreseeable future. In other words, you've been slacking lately and your conscience is kicking you in the arse for it while you sleep. (At least this is my take on it. I could be wrong though.)

im back in college and trying to figure it all out.. ill be late for class, stressing out and unprepared or trying to figure out how to graduate… then, before i wake up- I always realize, ‘Wait- i already graduated
Yep.
Usually it's me realizing I have a midterm or final for a class I haven't been to all semester.

This makes sense to a point except for the fact that we all graduated. It's not like my mediocre performance in undergrad caused any bad effects. C's get degrees, right? Oddly enough, I became a super nerd in graduate school, almost obsessive about grades.
Either way, same dream several times a year. Forgot to drop the class, wandering all over campus in complete panic because I can't find the room, don't know the answers on the final. Every single time.

Yes. I still have this dream where I have an MBA I somehow forgot about (which is a stupid premise in the first place) an then I randomly have an "oh frick" moment when I realized i've missed a bunch of class, assignments, and exams.
Huge feeling of relief (and weird stupidity) when I wake up.

Not exactly having dreams, but I do wish I was still in college. Best and most fun years of my life. Every day to me was amazing, even if I had to deal with all the studying and classes. It was just part of it.
Compared to that, being an adult for the most part sucks to me.

Dunno but my freshman year at LSU(spring semester,) I had a Calculus final first thing in the morning and we were heading for Pensacola immediately after. Had a hs buddy in town for the trip who’d already finished his finals at another college. We didn’t get in from partying till the wee hours, I overslept and talked him into taking the final for me.
How did you do on that final?
