I was leaving a job last year. I gave them 30 days notice. Made sure not to burn any bridges. Explained in detail it was just too much money to pass up.

The last week, they came to me and figured out they didn’t want to move forward without me since I’d been so helpful the past 30 days.

I ended up with 22% increase and more vacation to stay. Along with other advancement commitments.

Those people probably saved me from myself. I’m thankful.

Anybody ever get suckered into the Vector thing. Maybe only me,

They were on my campus advertising an easy resume-building summer job that paid $15/hr. Me being a naive 19 year old was all in with no questions asked. Literally, I didn't ask a single question besides where do I go and when can I start.

What they didn't say was it was the job was selling knives, and it was $15/appointment. And we had to set our own appointments by constantly nagging our own family and friends. And we had to drive to those appointments with our own cars/gas, just to manage to make $15. The knives were good quality as far as I can tell, but they were damn near $1000. I don't have a single person in my inner or outer circle who could afford that.
Then there was the weekly team meetings that were mandatory to attend, but they were completely unpaid as well.

I'm still amazed at how dumb I was when I was younger.

That shite is the biggest lie the military has. Even recruiters don’t straight up lie like that.

The "wish list" is just that. They don't promise you anything. It's just your preference. I know people who did get their choice. If the army has a slot for a rank, among other things in that location there is a chance to get assigned there.

I have 20+ years of experience in my field and I'm the team lead of my department. I'll still occasionally get asked to do something that the interns that make 20% of my salary could do. Such is life I guess.

A relative had a decent job. A friend who worked in a "cool" business recruited him to jump ship to their place where everything was peaches and cream. Relative saw it was bullshite after one week and, miraculously, his old place took him back immediately.

That’s kind of a different circumstance....lol....Mine sort of worked out as I was laid off about a week before my adopted daughter was born. My wife was able to work a bit longer before taking leave and I was able to spend time with the baby and my two natural daughters.

Yep. Happened to me. I was working for a construction company on the north shore that was in dire financial shape and knew I needed to get out. Interviewed with a company in BR. Interview went great, met several people, sounded great. Nice office. Really felt weird about it but I knew I didn’t want to be caught in a situation where I lost my job, so I took it.

At first everything was great, but I started to see issues almost immediately. Company had a BP oil spill claim, various problems making contacts. Accounting people that clearly knew little to nothing about accounting. Had a Karen supposed to be working for me that within the first month told me she was more than qualified to do my job herself (despite the fact that she didn’t know basic construction terminology). Then I started bidding jobs and having to pull them because we couldn’t get bonding.

I made it 11 months. I got really lucky. I found another job at a great company that I loved working for. But karma has a way of working out. I left and they were out of business within 3 months.

You live and learn.

Yeah but the wish list is BS when two guys graduate AIT the same class and get each other’s #1 choice which was no where on the others lost.

Mine was strange. Smaller startup type with a pretty solid product in a competitive market. Got promoted immediately into a role I loved. Two owners of the company bragged about culture and lived by catchlines but never would bend to support the sales team and we were completely inflexible in winning and supporting customers. Lied about what the product could do. Lied about a future product and what it did or how far along it was.

Looking back, the vagueness around the company should have been a huge red flag, but they gave a 6 figure raise so it was worth a shot

What are you doing that wasn't in the job description? There is a reason they have those.

Same and attending these new virtual meetings that I have buisness being in.....but, they keep writing the checks and they keep getting bigger. Not to mention my work travel is 10% of pre-rona.

Meh...I've been in for 19 now. My recruiter was pretty upfront told me you get your foot in the door and anything is possible, just take it one day at a time. Can't say he was wrong.

If you are a teenager in HS or a student in college, treat every teacher and professor with the upmost respect. No matter If you have a summer job at Winn Dixie, never burn a bridge or go off on your managers. Every job you work builds a resume for later career opportunities.

I work in weather as a contractor for the government. My vendor wanted me to list every job I ever had and a list of the managers during those jobs. Some managers had died but I listed references . Even though I had worked at a plant, my present HR called about my employment that I worked 30 years earlier.

Treat each job with respect even if you secretly dislike it. Never burn bridges from the past.

I was told they were going to “merge several office positions” to bring me on board... he was so impressed with me and my resume he couldn’t pass on having me there. Now I’m there and being used an assistant. I’m basically a note taker and agenda keeper. I’m capable of so much more... I’m glad to have a job and paycheck... but I’m so unfulfilled.
