Tinnitus is like seeing floaters, your brain eventually ignores it, but it doesn’t go away.

I can ignore it most of the time.

Except when I'm reminded of it. Thanks a lot jerk (J/K).

30 years of jet engines, helicopters, and standing in front of Marshall amplifier stacks at a few Ramones concerts at Tipitinas. White noise like fans really helps at night to sleep.. Protect your hearing.

I was born with hearing loss and I remember back in high school wondering what was the ringing in my ears. It was not diagnosed back in the 50's and 60's. I eventually grew out of it. But in the last six months or so the ringing has started again. Back when I got my last hearing aids (three years ago) they questioned me if I had tinnitus or not.

I haven’t heard silence in 20 years. You get used to it. The first time you get a pitch change it’s gonna scare the shite out of you

When I try to go to bed after a night of drinking my tinnitus is off the charts.

Mynoise.net is fantastic if you take the time to adjust the filter to your particular tinnitus level.

In the summer here the drone of bugs outside is a perfect cancellation but my wife won't let me leave the windows open because of the humidity.

Tried sleeping outside in the screened porch one night and a fox wandered over and screamed about 15ft away and scared the every living shite out of me. That ended that.

My ears have not quit ringing for about 30 years. I used to like to go to concerts...now I regret it.

man......i should've listen to the older folks about the loud noises in my youth. this sucks so fricking bad.

I think duck hunting & gun range shooting got me, but too many rock concerts may be part of it.

Apparently they will pay me for it, but I’ve never pursued it.

File a claim. The VA process takes years but service connection is usually easy to prove, especially for tinnitus and bilateral hearing loss. If you get denied on your initial claim, you can hire a lawyer to file an NOD, which preserves your benefits from the date of original filing. The lawyer gets 20% of the past-due benefits if you win.

They inject the drug via a gel into your cochlea. The formulation in the gel turns off the genes that prevent hair cell growth. It's not one gene, which is what made it difficult. Also getting the gel into the right location challenged them.

I have bad balance due to hair cell damage, early case studies reported that patients saw noticeable balance improvements.

They weren't trying to target the semicircular canals, where the hair cells that help you balance are, but the gel must go everywhere when they inject it.

It's only one of several competing drugs being developed. The Hough Institute has a pill that should restore the nerve cells that lie at the base of the hair cells. They believe that in many cases, the hair cell survives the initial acoustic trauma, but the nerve ending at the base do not. And by simply restoring the nerve cell, they can improve hearing, and tinnitus.

Mine sounds like crickets and I can hear "it" over the lawn mower/weed eater running. You do get used to it somewhat. I wear ear plugs and over the ear when I do anything loud now.

I’m pretty sure that tinnitus can’t be physically proven, therefore can’t be ruled out...

Speaking of hearing aids, how do the expensive ones compare with the cheap ones? I have only tried the little cheap ones (about $50) basically just an overall amplifier.

LOL Until you have heard a fox scream close by you haven't lived

Unbelievable that that kind of noise at such a high amplitude can come from such a small creature.

I have a serious case. The crickets buzz 24 hours a day and there is nothing medical science can do.

This is what mine sound like. You would think I'm standing in the woods with a thousand crickets chirping.
