Yep. I also miss hand cranking my car and shattering my forearm when it kicks back. Ahh, the good times.

When I was a kid, my school had an after school program for parents that couldn't get their kids as soon as school let out. My dad and used to tell me to page him when I needed something because he didn't want me to call him at work. The only phone that was available for kids to use was a rotary phone and you couldn't page anyone with it because it didn't send an actual signal for the numbers so I had to call him (he'd get super pissed). I told him 10 times that I couldn't page him and he wouldn't believe me until he took out an old rotary phone we had and tried it himself.

I remember back when radio stations had give-aways and contests and such, they would take a certain number caller, such has caller #9. We would dial the number to the radio station and hold that last digit on the rotary phone, finger to the metal, already coiled. You could sit at that phone for an hour like that, but if your finger slipped...

My grandmother still has 2 rotary phones hanging on her wall. One of them, in the kitchen, has like a 50' cord on it. It's awesome. Lol. She had to end up getting a simple cordless phone to use when she has to call a company with a phone menu, so she could press 1 for English, etc. I've told her I could probably sell them, since they are in mint condition, but she doesn't want to get rid of them.

I miss everything about the days when things were built to last forever.

The king of rotary dial phones was the Western Electric model 500, they were made at a plant in Shreveport. The Originals were made of bakelite and weighed a ton, more than one person was beat to death with one of these phones, usually by their spouse. Until the Bell Telephone system was broken up you had to rent them from the phone company, most people only had one in the house. We had two because my dad's employer paid the extra charge so he could be available by phone in his home office.

The feeling of empowerment from slamming the phone on someone. Can't really do that with the phones of today.
