This was a mainstay of my childhood:
I was freshly asleep . I couldn’t move. I felt awake. My chest felt as if someone was pushing me down. My arms felt thick and like 100 lb weights.I was struggling desperately to wake up. I would see myself from above at ceiling level. My mind would look down onto my body which was fighting to wake up. But my body was still. I was in danger from whatever was pushing me down at chest level. I stayed ant ceiling height and just looked down at my body and stayed hovering there throughout.
This happened hundreds of times. Disproportionately if I took a nap in the day. Then one day it just stopped.

Lucid dreamer. Some are very pleasant, some just weird, some unpleasant to the point that I could not possibly tell anyone. I can realize that it is a dream but allow it to continue. I am also very aware that I dream in color. My daughter has always been a dreamer to the point that I suggested she should investigate whether she could participate in scientific dream studies.
Anyone else here time-travel? I have lost increments of time by leaping forward 15 or 20 minutes with no recognition or memory of the intervening time passing. Checked anus for evidence of abduction and probing by aliens.

There is a fitness youtuber that chronicled his attempts to lucid dream. He was able to lucid dream eventually on purpose...but it led to him waking up in sleep paralysis almost every night

Wow. That is freaky. And no doubt unsettling.

Sometimes I have trouble sleeping and get up very early like 2 am.
I drink one cup of coffee, then go back to bed 90 minutes later.
That is when I have the wildest dreams. Otherwise, I don't remember dreaming at all. Kind of sad. I wish I remembered more.

Same. But I'm not sure why mine stopped

Had it happen to me once. I’m still not convinced it wasn’t a glimpse into a shadowy ghost dimension. Seriously, how come we all see the same shite despite our vastly different life experiences?

I have had sleep paralysis one time. Pretty sure it was a 4 or 5 years ago at this point.
Unlike anything ive ever experienced before. Very eerie feeling and i remember there being some dark feeling of something.
I wonder what causes everyone to feel the darkness when it happens.

Yep. A dark shadow figure just hovers and I can’t move anything. It sucks.

Back when I used to do x/mdma a lot this would happen from time to time when I didn’t sleep for a day or so .
Was pretty terrifying trying to wake up but couldn’t move . Glad I grew up

It's a demonic attack. Seriously.
I told it to go away in the name of Jesus. Always worked. The attacks became less frequent until they stopped altogether.

Not since I was a teenager. I had the alien variety. Felt like someone was pulling the covers off as well and I could not turn my head to see what it was. They're pretty terrifying when they happen. Haven't had one in many years fortunately.

Sleep paralysis happened to me when in my early 30s while napping on the rear seat of a van on the way to a dive trip in Florida. I woke up, was in a daze and my entire body felt like cement and I could do nothing but blink. I couldn’t talk, make a sound, nor wiggle a finger. I just laid there while the van stopped and the other 2 people got out and one told me to wake up. It seemed like minutes until I could move anything and as it faded I could feel parts of my body start to wake up. The feeling came back to my core first and then the arms and legs. It was crazy. Never happened again.

On my coming up, I shared a one bed apartment with a friend. Living room was basically my room. I slept on the couch, and I was sleeping in the middle of the day when I had this awful dream of coming into a different version of this room. I walked in, and somehow explained to myself that looking at this painting of a witch on the wall had me stuck in place forever. Medusa kind of thing, I was laying in the couch staring at this damn painting and I couldn't look away and knew I'd be there forever.
I woke up with my eyes open staring at a Spiderman poster lol dreams are seriously interesting

Yeah. Usually I recognize it and try to shake my head until I wake up fully. When that doesn't work it's very unpleasant, helpless, and frustrating. And I often know it's happening when it happens.

If you’re stuck, try to move and wiggle your toes. It’ll wake you up. Dream hack.
ETA:
I’ve discussed in threads here before. I’m capable of controlling my lucid dreams. They always involve me flying or having sex with someone nearby. The dreams are great, but they’re exhausting. I actually wish I had a button to turn them off. But they happen way too often and it makes it hard to get a good night of sleep.
I go to nearest wall in my dreams when I’m asleep. And I realize that I can start to climb it and begin to float/fly. That’s how I know I’m in the dream. After that I can control and do anything I want. I don’t know how to turn it off. I wish I could. Fun but exhausting

Yes and often times if I remain in that state I"ll have what I can only describe as out of body experiences. Its the weirdest feeling. When I'm stuck in sleep paralysis it will feel like my whole body is vibrating and suddenly I feel like my consciousness is no longer pat of my body and I'll float around the room. Sometimes up to the ceiling or down to the floor. I dont really think anything super natural is occurring... just another state of consciousness that screws with my brains perception of reality.

Something else that happens to me - I'll dream about something that makes perfect sense in my dream, but after I wake up and try to recall it or describe it to my wife, I can't come up with any description. It is impossible to describe what I was dreaming even though it all made sense at the time.

Never had sleep paralysis, but I lucid dream more than I regular dream. It's a bizarre feeling at first, but now I have fun in my dreams.
