There is no explaining to some folks.

Are they overpriced (like virtually any luxury good)? Sure.

Are Oakleys the same as $2.00 gas station sunglasses? They're barely in the same galaxy.

I agree I had a pair of Oakleys last me 6 years they were very reliable. Those gas station glasses break once a week. I hate paying the price but right now I have a pair of polo sunglasses which so far seem pretty reliable also.

People comparing them to gas station sunglasses are retarded.

However you can get a great, durable pair of shades now for like 30 bucks now

At my son’s 8th grade award ceremony yesterday I saw at least five kids rocking mullets.

Camaro Cool is coming back, I guess.

This was inevitable when they brought the actual Camarillo back. Now we just need and IROC version.

I’d wear them to the 1986 Deke party.

Not the shades themselves, but ads for the old wayfarers at the bottom of every other TD page.

Yep, they are Pit Viper sunglasses. They go great with the mullets that have come back into style

Man, if God hadn't taken the hair from the top of my head, I would totally rock a mullet and those glasses.

I've been rocking my old school cobalt eye jackets with the +red iridium lens. I've worn nothing but Oakleys since the late-90s.

I had a pair like this also. My dog got a hold of them and chewed them up. I sent them back to Oakley and had the lenses replaced. I don’t remember how much it was to replace them but I believe it was less than $50.00

Sunglasses certainly share some traits of Veblen goods but there is a certainly a wide range of quality.

I tend not to lose or damage sunglasses and as a result don't balk at the 200+ dollar price tag on quality shades.

I have Wayfarers from the 80s, Vuarnet and Bolle' from the 80s/90s, Revo from the 90s/00s, and over the last 10 or so years I have bought only Persol. The only sunglasses I have truly retired are a pair of original Gargoyles. They are all good to excellent quality and they all get worn on occasion. I would probably have a different opinion if I lost/destroyed multiple pairs a year.
