I remember a caller on NPR’s Car Talk program had a problem where his car was infested with black widows. Creeped me the hell out. I don’t think that they had a solution other than taking the car somewhere that was so cold, the spiders couldn’t survive.

Geckos in your garage/carport and pest control will take care of most spider issues.

I'd rather the spiders than the geckos. They leave poop everywhere.

The spiders for the most part keep to themselves and eat other flying pest.

I've noticed those bastards are messy. We've only had them around for about 5 years but I'm not liking what I'm seeing. The native lizards are quite discrete about where they hide their business.

Geckos are a little messy but don't make sticky webs that catch everything else that goes near them, and they scatter from light and generally leave things alone other than spiders.

This. Geckos will also take care of any roach problems.
