only had this experience once, but the worst panic attack I've ever had was on an offshore fishing trip and a massive container ship got within a mile of us. The size of it absolutely frightened me and I was convinced it was heading towards us

A buddy and I were fishing in Slidell many years ago. We were towards the middle of what I assume was a shipping channel. We hear a hum and turn to see a very large container ship headed towards us. It was still a good ways off but my buddy(who was far more familiar with the area) said to just beach our boat and push the Cajun anchor down as far as we could. The ship slowly made its way past us but the wake was something. Pushed us in to the extent of the anchor rode then once it passed, sucked us out to the end of the anchor rode.

Steep bridges.

What happens if the tires lose all grip!?!

This junk makes its way into my dreams at least once a month. Huge, steep bridges and I never make it up, but get high enough for it to be a problem.

Spiders. Centipedes. The more legs the more I'm out.

The wife has a crazy fear

My wife is irrationally afraid of traveling to a non-English speaking country. She thinks that she won’t be able to communicate effectively enough to get back home.

Also, left turns. She will drive miles out the way to avoid left turns.

Mine is deathly afraid of navigating airports by herself. She's capable of it and used to fly somewhat regularly for work, but she barely sleeps the night before worried she's going to arrive late, go to teh wrong ticket counter, be unable to determine which concourse/gate to go to, etc. And my gosh, god help her if she has a connection to make.

Thats not an irrational fear. Falling over a balcony of a high rise is a scary thing. Regardless of its frequency.

I think it's a little irrational to fear falling over a balcony of a high rise building if all you're doing is looking out or sitting in a chair.

Not sure it's entirely irrational, but I'm not at all comfortable on high ledges like cliffs or hiking trails that hug a mountinside. My fear isn't the height, but rather of slipping and falling off the side. I was a nervous wreck watching my kids run around at the Grand Canyon.

I don't think it's irrational to fear walking a ledge in which one misstep can be death, like Angels Landing.

I've had the same dream for the last 20 years or so- a Russian heavy bomber crashes into our garden and either kills me or my mother. Had the same dream 5-6 times. So i get nervous around russian aircraft. Totally fine for the blue angels at the end of the runway though.

Spiders.
If I had the choice of either letting nonvenomous tarantula crawl on me or let a cobra lick my balls…I would be getting kinky with that cobra immediately.

I almost hyperventilated just reading this. I refuse to be in a boat where those big ships are.

Did your left turn fearing wife learn to drive in nola?

Good friend of mine fell 8 stories off a Destin condo balcony when he was a toddler and lived with nothing more than a few bruises. They did a Rescue 911 episode on it

It’s not irrational but I take my ski boat on the MS river a lot to sandbars and I always fear the engine quitting on me and drifting with the current right into an oncoming barge
