Demonstratively false.

Today's cars are all about CAFE standards. Less weight = less horsepower needed in travel thus higher MPG. Steel has been replaced by plastics. If these sensors stopped you from backing over a child, maybe you are far too young to have actually experienced the difference in a collision.

A heated steering wheel in the winter is vastly underrated

LOL. Half the people driving $80k + Rovers and Mercedes don't even know how to use Bluetooth. I see them everyday with their phone up to their ears talking. Usually women.

And WTF do i need heated/cooled seats

I'm right there with you on most of the tech crap in modern cars. I won't knock heated seats, though, they're awesome.

Some stuff is mandated like backup cameras and tire pressure sensors, but the base trims of most vehicles are still pretty spartan.

I have a '97 Jeep Wrangler. It has a very basic computer for on-board diagnostics, but that's about it. Everything is pretty easy to DYI.

Here's stupidity at 120%.

I had a loaner ford edge. This thing had no way to turn on or adjust the A/D without going through the infotainment system.

On top of that you can hardly work on them.

This is the reason that service departments now have "technicians" instead of "mechanics." The engine would hold up just fine for a good bit over 250k miles, but the electronics are shot by about 120k miles and then they proceed to destroy the engine.

the engine in my wife’s 2012 with 350K on it sounds like the click clack going uphill on a rollercoaster. We are probably going to do an engine swap on it. She likes the vehicle and all it has are power locks/windows and cruise (which she never uses). Body/frame/interior all are fine (on her and the vehicle)

The part I hate about it is the default to a bunch of "automatic" shite.

Heated seats and steering wheel are great when it’s single digits or teens outside.
