I have seen the same thing. I was wondering what was the cause. Could it be the increase of Fence repair? Vibrations? Just an idea.

This is funny as hell. I walked outside yesterday to well over 40 worms on my back patio.

Happening here also. It is definitely occurring solely at night. No rains, no yard spray, not related to cutting grass as it's happened before and after cutting.

I have no idea but yes I will wake up some mornings to literally at least 100 worms all down my driveway and sidewalks.

Maybe the full moon has something to do with it.

Happened at my house in Madisonville too - figured it was the cold front. My 4 year old son gathered like 100 of them, then came inside and left the pile next to my wife's sink. My wife was not impressed.

I wonder if all the rain in the Spring threw off their breeding or something, and now that it has cooled off and the sun isn't beating down like it does in July/August they are playing catch up?

I do know that when they breed they will "crawl" like that sometimes. I wouldn't think it would be a mass die off due to mosquito spraying, though. It would take a heck of a lot of spray to penetrate the ground to cause something like that, if it is even a poison that would kill them.

We had a full moon recently on the 20th. I'm not sure that would have anything to do with it. Though, I raised worms for years as a kid and we had to make sure the tops were on the beds on a full moon night or almost every single worm would crawl out of the beds/boxes. It was even worse on humid nights with a full moon. We'd also keep a bright light over each bed on those nights. Something about a full moon would make them want to run away from home, though.

Same issue here. Multiple mass wormicides, but mine were when the ground was super saturated from the heavy rain this spring. Never seen it like this before in my life. You couldn't take a step without stepping on at least one worm.

You can see it happen during the Spring when they breed heavily, but that wouldn't make sense this time of year.

We've got shite blooming here in GA that shouldn't be blooming due to the warm weather...almost like some of the plants think it's spring, again. Could be what's going on with these earthworms?

The worm invasion happens many times a year here in Calcasieu parish. It often last several days. Some days I have to watch where I step on the driveway in the morning going out to get the paper.

I also have moles [several ???] in the yard and they mainly eat worms.

Isn't this how Men in Black 1 started? Or was the farmer guy eating roaches, who can remember?

I searched earthworms and found nothing. I’ll try just worms.

My Pops got me into raising rabbits as a kid. From there we started raising red worms for fishing bait.

Back in those days the local gin had what we called "gin trash" which had remnant cotton and organic debris in it, we also called it mote cotton. It isn't near what it used to these days, though. We had a couple dump truck loads brought in and dumped on the backside of our property behind where we had the rabbits. We let it rot for a year and dug worms for fishing. That's where we got our starter worms for our beds.

We dug them and put them in beds we made from big pallets. We built screen lids that were hinged for them. We used the gin trash, peat moss, and red clay dirt. We put the rabbit manure and cardboard on top of the dirt, and disposed of vegetable scraps in the beds.

The worms we first dug were your average sized red worms, a few inches long. When we got everything right, we were raising regular red worms that were the size of night crawlers, around 6-8" long and about as big around as a pencil.

The worms we raised and sold were, to this day, the biggest red worms I have ever seen. Most people buy starter worms for their beds. We just dug them up.

From around the age of 10 to 18ish I raised rabbits and worms. I had about ten or twelve stores I sold to on a regular basis. I sold rabbits to folks for pets, meat, and feeder stock for snakes. It was all damn good money for a teenager. Over the past couple years I've been considering getting back into it. I'd hate to see what feed for the rabbits costs now, though.
