16 years, and counting. But I don't mind. It's only for a few hours, and my kids enjoyed themselves.

Generally speaking, they're around like mind individuals and families that share similar values as us.

Plus, you're inside, and not sweating your arse off right now.

Yup. 45 heats of just the 100 meters. Middle school track meets are a marathon in themselves.

Damn, game changer. Usually put a few beers down beforehand. Once we left to go get a couple of beers because she had a break in dances and because of intermission. I do remember seeing my sister dance in B.R. that served wine and champagne. Oh well everything must come to an end.

How many have you been to? I would wager I have you beat. Mine is still dancing. She was a competitive dancer growing up, moved to BR ballet in 8th grade, spent summers at dance intensives across the country, majored in dance in college, and is moving to NYC to dance.

My daughter's dance recitals were fantastic when she was dancing, the other two and a half hours sucked. I told all my kids I won't go to any grand kids dance recitals. They actually understand.

Like I said my sister was big into ballet. She even went to school in N.C. for ballet. My mother was big into ballet and my sister was even taught by one of her teachers. So, if she started around 7, that would be 11 years with probably two dances a year, if not more. Then she danced with two companies when she got in H.S., so double up on recitals each year. Then on to college and even after she turned pro and danced with the Delta Ballet in N.O. After getting married, my wife had three girls in which two danced, one played softball. Then they each had a daughter, and only the softball daughter's daughter didn't dance. I'm not counting soccer or softball games. I'll say somewhere between 50-100, with it being closer to 100 than 50.

Agreed. But nowadays they're more like 6 hours and then they give out awards for an hour after.

I am right in the middle of it, she’s 11. It’s got it good and bad, she does competitive too so a lot of travel that I kinda enjoy.

I’m right there with you. Except my daughter went the volleyball route instead of cheer.

The good thing about those 2 activities is that they are indoors. No heat, no cold, no rain. God bless softball, soccer & T&F parents.

I’ve got a friend who’s wife (no pics) has a gift shop.

She has a sandwich board sign in front of the store with chalk boards on either sides of it where she writes messages.

She wrote “Dance Recital Gifts” on the boards.

I erased the first “i” on each side, took a picture and sent it to him.

He said she never noticed. PIIHB

I’ll ask my wife (no pics), but I’d bet it’s over 100. And they all dance at the recital.

They’ve been doing it for a long time and they are respectful of the parents and kids time. There’s one costume change for each group of kids, and they don’t stop except for intermission. There are also no individual ribbon or trophy handouts at the end. They recognize a couple of kids at intermission and the high school seniors at the end with a dance with their fathers, but that’s it.

Edit: the school has about 300 students. About 100 danced at our recital. There are 2 more recitals for the older students (above 5th grade maybe) plus another for just competition students.

Dance recitals are like watching paint dry, then having to scrape it off.

Ehh they’re not terrible. Basically get to drink beer and play on my phone until my daughter’s turn.
