Ive been. A possible place Id retire. Cheaper cost of living than other places in Colorado. Lots of outdoors stuff within 20 min. City is big enough it has everything you need. And the airport is decent enough, on the level of BTR.
About an hour drive to Vail/Beaver Creek skiing. Close to alot of stuff in Utah: Moab, Arches, Canyonlands, Red Rock stuff.
And the Western Slope isnt completely overrun with West Coast and Northeast whacko transplants like the Front Range is....yet

This is true, but in reality, the western slope is trashier and poorer than you'd really expect. Coming from Louisiana, though, it wouldn't be any big deal...
I will agree that there would be all kinda cool things to do within a 3-4 hour drive in any direction, though, so there's that

Not much to GJ unless you like to hunt multiple species of big game, fly fish, float whitewater, explore in a Jeep or on a bike, camp in mountains or desert, drink quality beer, or live in a smaller town.

May have a job offer there. Next place I move, I want to stay so I’ve been kinda careful. Going to try to make a trip out there this Fall. I have an offer in New Hampshire but they aren’t going to wait forever. Not really crazy about the NH weather. Wife and I both love Northern AZ, but I’ve never been to CO.
Who you considering going to work for, if you can disclose that?
I've been there 3 times. Once way back in the mid 2000s, twice 2012ish time frame.
First time was doing work for Enterprise Products at a site called Baxter pass and staying in GJ. Word of advice, anyplace with the name Pass in it in the Rockies is likely to be high and cold, even in May (got snowed on in May).
Last time I was there it was to do some PLC/RTU programming for BHP in conjunction with a company named Flow-Data. I enjoyed that time there immensely. The city was about 1/2 the size of Lafayette at that time but had everything Lafayette had and seemingly more TBH. Also seemed like there was less crime in general there but not entirely sure about that.
My only forays to the northeast have been to DC (not business), Pittsburgh area(also not business), East Providence, R.I./Seekonk, Maryland (work), and Atlantic City (work convention). DC was way better than I expected but I don't think I could afford to live there in the place I would want to. Pittsburgh area I could live in. Didn't really feel like I would like the Providence area based on most of the people I interacted with. Atlantic City, well, if I had to pay for the trip, I wouldn't even visit much less live there. I expect NH would be a decent place to live depending on the people and how friendly they are in general if that is important to you.
Good luck man. Those decisions are always nerve-racking

Second that, lots of micro brews. Tried Fat Tire there before it went national. The have a several microbrew/brewhouses in the town that have quality food and great beers. From what a wine drinking work acquaintance tells me, they have a lot of very good local wineries as well (think Grand Mesa when anyone says local).
Did I mention I really like GJ?

I actually live in Grand Junction.
It's a friendly town. Hot summers (but it's a nice dry heat and usually breezy), long Falls and Springs, minimal snow during winter (and it usually melts within a day or two). Great views in just about any direction. Ski resorts and a few of Utah's national parks within a couple hours drive. Moab or Glenwood Springs is a great weekend and each is only 90 minutes away.
Has a VA medical center and pretty much everything one needs. Lots of festivals and events all close during the summer. Lots of vineyards in the Colorado river valley, Rockies baseball farm team, river rafting, fly fishing, the 11,000 foot Grand Mesa overlooking the town is a 45 minute drive to the top, said to be 600 moose up there and literally thousands of lakes, great fishing.
First place outside of Louisiana I've lived that I can honestly say feels like "home".
All that said, the cost of living is about as cheap as you'll find in Colorado, but the town is really growing. The front range (Denver, CO Springs) and the mountains have priced alot of people out of the Colorado experience, but word is out about Grand Junction. Tons of houses going up, prices going up, wages have yet to catch up, but they will eventually.

The OT is overrun with self professed elitists.
It's got some quirks, but it's no different than most of the country.

Did it two weeks ago. Drove from SF to BR. Beautiful scenery

I always liked that little hotel called the Shady Rest, run by Kate if I recall correctly. Old guy named Uncle Joe used to live there.

I got an air bnb there the last week of September. Taking my parents out there, they have never been to Colorado, and havent been anywhere out west besides Las Vegas/Grand Canyon about 14 years ago.
Plan on doing the moab parks, black canyon Gunnison, telluride area, and maybe dinosaur nm. Can't wait.

Got stranded at their airport once. That’s about it.

That side of the Rockies seemed more arid than the front range where I lived.
Someone mentioned that it's dusty there and doesn't surprise me from the couple of days I spent there.
Colorado Rockies to the east and Utah Rockies to the west, so you would have a lot of interesting areas within weekend driving distance.

We get it man, you’re looking to move.
Wouldn’t recommend the OT as a place to seek useful advice on where to go.

I’ve only been asking about places I have a legit opportunity to transfer to. Not throwing darts at a US map lol

You’ve been trolling this board about places to live outside of Louisiana for 2 years now. You’re not going anywhere boy.
