Been there many times. I have good friends living there. I was just there in May in fact. It's the largest town on the Western Slope and there are quite a few Louisiana transplants living there. I considered living there once but chose Glenwood Springs area instead. Like people have mentioned, it's close to a lot of things. San Juan Mountains, Moab, Black Canyon etc. It's the high desert so it's dry and arid and doesn't get much snow in winter.

Palisade peaches are in season, stands everywhere. Best peaches I've ever had, and I used to live in Georgia.

only been in that area once - Durango has a wider variety of restaurants than I was expecting

was a lot of traffic and the town didn't seem all that big, was in April so wasn't tourist season, just seemed like a lot was going on
